Hi I’m a Asian female senior student applying to these university for Electrical Engineering major: Columbia, Penn, Duke(I know the first three are high high high reach for me), JHU, Northwestern, WUSTL, Vandy, Rice, CMU, GT, USC, UVA, UNC…and UCs, UIUC and UMich have deferred me and RHIT admitted
SAT: 750R+770M, 6+5+7W
ACT: 35E+34M+31R+34S, 8W
SAT2: Math 2-800, Physics-730(…will ACT science score 34 help?)
APs: Calc BC-5, Microeconomics-5, Physics C both 4 on M&E
GPA: 3.93UW,(I have downward trend!!4A and 6A+ in my freshman year, 16A+ and 2A/A- in my sophomore year, but 6Bs in my junior year!!!)

ECs:

  1. Founded first-ever FRC team at my school (pretty hard since it’s considered as a liberal arts school and not supportive for these STEM activities…so I did pretty much for my team, spent most of my junior year’s time purchasing tools and machines for our first-ever workshop, searching for sponsorship, doing community outreach and other activities…)
  2. Summer robotics program at CMU
  3. Initiator and author of a book about FRC, in which I spent time interviewing those who contributed to development of this competition and composed articles for them to inspire more FRC chapters in my country
  4. Vice president of school poetry club and Chief Editor of School’s poetry
  5. Member of Volunteer association(over 300 hours): led autism art exhibit, tutored deaf students(my why major essay is a combination of them and my experience in FRC), collaborated with my team to hold robotics workshop in communities
  6. Vice president of Chinese culture club, making some Chinese-style goods and donate profits to charity
  7. VP of Mock Trial, introducing MT into our school and held the first MT

Plus I added many details of my robotics-related activities in additional information part instead of something interesting about me which I wanted to write initially

Honors:

  1. Rookie All-Star Award of FRC
  2. Honorable Mention Award of HiMCM
  3. All-round student at school
  4. School’s Honor Roll (i earn this in my senior year, should I write this in app?)

Recommendation:
Teacher Evaluation: From AP Calc and physics teachers (should be mediocre…they wrote and uploaded each student’s recommendation in one hour as most of our students known…)
Counselor’s recommendation: i think it’s good(writing about sth of my FRC experience)
Other Recommendation from a system scientist of RI in CMU: showing my leadership in FRC team and contribution to this competition’s development

Hi. I am a Asian male senior applying for Mechanical/Industrial Engineering XD

I know a friend who got into Cornell(via ED). She applied for Chemical Engineering.
She is an Asian female student who had no American citizenship, and her resume is pretty similar to yours. Although she got 3 800s in SATII Chemistry, Physics, and Math II, her ACT score was lower than you.

So I think you have a decent chance for the colleges that you set as high reach schools. I am also feeling nervous because applying for engineering school is definitely, hard.

However, let’s not be afraid too much. Wherever we go, since we are engineering students, we will have a decent job, thrive in the future.
