If I get 2200+ on the SAT I and good scores on the SAT II, do i have a chance at Cornell ECE through early decision?

Other schools I am considering:
Carnegie Mellon University
M.I.T.
Columbia
Northwestern Univeristy
U.T. Austin
Rensselaer Polytechnic
Uni. of Washington
Uni. of Michigan
Harvery Mudd
Georgia Inst. of Tech.

-tell me where to improve
-tel me straight out if i have a chance

You have a shot to make every school you listed. MIT and Columbia are big reaches, but other than that I can see you having a reasonable chance at most schools.

Probably something like this:

CMU - slight reach
MIT - big reach
Columbia - reach
NU - high match
UT Austin (oos) - low match
RPI - match
U Wash (oos) - low match
UM (oos) - match
HMC - reach (but my gut tells me it’s still more feasible than Columbia)
GT (oos) - low match
Cornell ED Engineering - high match/ slight reach

You still need a safety school, preferably in-state. University of Utah?

thanks everyone so far!
quick question: what is low, high, and match?
low=very likely to get in
match=likely
high=less likely
???
or other way around?
please keep posting everyone!

@asianxtreme: i think you’ve got it right. so high match would be harder to get into than low match, but low match would be harder than high safety, etc.

You have a good chance if you can bring up your SATs above a 2100. You probably have an equally good chance in Columbia as you do in Cornell, because Columbia’s engineering program has relatively high acceptance rates. But if you are doing early, you have to choose between Columbia and Cornell. I had to make the same decision (In the last week before I submitted my app because I thought Columbia was early action), and I chose Cornell because it has the best engineering program in the Ivy League. MIT is going to be a far reach for you. You still have a chance, of course, but it’s definitely the hardest on the list.

i think you have a very solid chance for cornell - your ethnic background definitely helps you out a lot. make sure you do get your SAT scores up though, much much higher - you do need to top at least 2150. solid AP / honors stuff, and pottery is definitely a unique thing about tyou (i think). fantastic community service, although i think you MAY be overdoing it a bit. anyways good luck!
