Hi people,
I’m a non-traditional student with high school GED, transferring from the university in Korea. But for my current status as a resident alien, I was told from the admissions office that I would be considered as a domestic student. I barely lived in the U.S. so everything seems fascinating and is completely a new experience! So far I love living in America.
Now I’m attending a community college in Ohio.
My career path drastically changed after the visit in Las Vegas and now I am considering for CSHA.
The previous major in Korea was Theatric Art and Japanese Literature, and I was in America for music school.
I was pursuing an acting career and had been on regular TV shows and commercials.
Didn’t really expect me to become passionate about fields other than performing arts.
I had been working in customer service for 9 years since 17( I know I am a really old side to decide to go to school at this age, and it’s even undergraduate). I had some family issues and that delayed me from going undergrat school in Korea.
I self supported for a long time to live up as a performer and sometimes it sucked. But this work experiences, as an assistant manager, or hotel duty free associate have been solidified as a concrete work experience, and it converged into this college choice that I thinking about.
I enjoyed learning foreign languages when I was young and now I speak 5 different languages fluently. My mother language Korean, English as a second language and Japanese, Chinese, and French. Never been studying abroad, learnt in Korea, I learned these dreaming about my acting career, but now I feel like all my interests on languages were meant for hotel career.
I currently work in Marriott International, and I think I will develop and stay in this corporate for good. I love my job. I might transfer into europe or back in korea and just world widely traverser as a hotelier, hopefully in the future!!!
And at that point, I realized I wanted to study this field more in depth so badly and to go to the best school in the U.S.
Yeah…
I’ve been kinda beating around the bush, but will any of you possibly give me an advice on what I can do more for consideration? My biggest problem is college course works… GPAs… it will show at the very bottom… because there is something terrible about it…
Anyways first of all, my application (CA) was submitted on Nov. and I’m waiting for my college report and transcript from current community college to be posted on Self-Service Web.
They still wanted my secondary school informations.
My middle school-highschool before I quit, had been great around 3.7-8 ( un-weighted we don’t do weighted in korea)
I really wanted to come to america so I studied SAT, SAT2, APs and got scores on SAT2 and APs.
SAT2 math2C 780, Chem 770, Bio 680, Chinese 790…
AP Micro ECON 5, Macro ECON 4, Cal BC 4, ME Bio 3…
and these are really old as from 2006’s …Lol… again, I am transferring kinda at an old age…
I put extracurricular activities as followings
- Foreign Language Penta-lingual/Exceptional talent in language study Native Korean, Fluent in English/Japanese, Intermediate in Chinese, and conversational in French

My essay was about my passions to this field and how all my studies(performing arts, foreign languages and work experiences) converge into Hospitality management.
I really think that there are a lot of extenuating circumstances for me and I described them all on the application.
My biggest concern is about current college course works…
I took only one ESL course in my previous school year… fall 2014, because I needed to finish ESL prior to take native courses since I am a foreigner.
Though it was a credited course and got 4.0 for just one class, I am afraid that they will doubt my academic potential through college courses and scores. I will be taking 15 credits of the regular GE courses this spring semester!! hurray out of ESL!!!
AND my biggest problem is this… To be honest, I literally got Cs and Ds at my second last semester in Korea…( A lot of personal reason but not mentioned precisely… I’m afraid this will let them neglect me?)
It dragged down from my 3.9 GPA to 3.3 ish… or even lower as 3.2?
and my cum GPA in Musicians Institute was 3.39 out of 4 ( but i had organized a lot of art collaborative performances, gigs, and made it to sony music finalist etc)
And at last, I got 2 recommendation letters, one from my ESL instructor and the other from General Manager at work.
I know It’s been really long and might contain a lot of grammatical error, but give me a mercy on that!!!
And hopefully I can get some advice regarding how to ameliorate my application status…
Please!!!
