4.0 UW, rank 1/600; will have 12 APs, 6 to date (all 5s), OOS
SAT 1500 (760 verbal/740 math)
LSA - Bio
Essays - very strong
Teacher Rec - very strong I think?
Counselor Rec - I assume strong but at a large school and don’t really know her
2 varsity sports
good volunteering including shadowing and volunteer work at a hospital
Work 20 hours per week
Clubs/honor societies/some leadership
Any chance for EA, or most like in RD pile?
I think it is a reach but apply and see what happens! Is your family willing to pay for Michigan OOS? Do you have affordable likely schools on your list?

Yes, he is only applying to schools we are willing to pay for as we do not expect any aid.
Is he premed?
Yeah, unhooked Michigan OOS admissions are into that territory now that even with basically top academic qualifications, you still don’t know.
But for sure the OP’s kid seems in the right competitive range, so why not give it a shot (assuming affordability)?
Yes, I agree. I think he is as qualified as the next kid. Maybe there is something that will speak to them - his essays are actually very funny for a STEM kid he’s an excellent creative writer. Very well balanced, but I realize hooks are more attractive than balance. Prepared for a no and no hearts will break.

Good luck and congrats to your son! As long as he has a range of schools that he likes then applying to Michigan is great…but it is really impossible to chance him.
One thing you may want to consider is that as a biology major, if he changes his mind about medical school (for any reason) he will likely need some type of grad school.
