Chance Me: EA vs. ED UChicago [4.0 GPA]

I’m preparing for the admissions process this fall and UChicago is one of my top choices.

Intended major: neuroscience

GPA: 4.0/4.7 weighted

Courses: 4 APs, 1 IB SL, and 2 college courses at the time of application (but will be taking 4 more AP tests and another college course during my senior year)

I plan to apply test optional.

ECs: copresident of National Honor Society, founded/copresident of a neuroscience/psychology club at my school, have had an internship in a psych lab at a local university since beginning of 11th grade, job at an ice cream shop, competitive volleyball player

Other info: Upper middle class, white female, out of state, winner of statewide National History Day competition (10th grade), biochemistry research poster to include in supplementary materials

Based on my stats, I am wondering what my chances are of getting in to UChicago EA. I would prefer to apply EA because it’s nonbinding, but if it’s very unlikely I get accepted, I would consider applying ED 1. Additionally, I have heard that lots of people apply EA, get deferred, and switch to ED 2, which I would also be open to doing. What is the smartest course of action?

Don’t ED if it’s unaffordable/not your favorite. If it’s not your favorite school, why would you apply ED?

The cost of attendance is pushing $95,000 a year. Is this affordable for your family? Have you used the NPC (depending on your circumstances it may not be reliable)?

Keep in mind that with a degree in neuroscience you are likely looking at some type of grad school.

Are you recruitable for volleyball?

How does your rigor compare to your class peers? What math class will you have senior year?

I would advise you to get a test score…there is still time. Most enrolled Chicago students applied with a test score, and I expect most successful applicants coming from a similar background to you submitted a test.

I can’t chance you, but regarding ED vs EA…I wouldn’t apply ED unless Chicago is your first choice school and affordable. It’s a reach whether you apply ED or EA.
