Chance me ED 2 Boston College, US[+Canada] citizen from small Canadian town weak ECs[4.0 UW, Test optional]

If your school provides a scale and 90=A (which in Canada it definitely should) then you’re fine.
If your school provides letter grades only then they’ll use the letter grades.

Yes, A = 86-100% for us. Does it look bad on our school that our A is lower than most US High schools? Will AO’s assume my school is easy (trust me it’s not despite no APs)

In my experience applying to schools in the US years ago from a high school in Canada, the admissions staff at universities in the US seem to understand that Canadian high schools have a different grade scale compared to US high schools. It seemed like they adjusted for the difference relatively accurately.

You’ve put in your apps - right ?

You’re in at ASU or somewhere ? Right.

Take a deep breath.

Many schools don’t even look at your Fall grades.

And these don’t seem bad at all.

US colleges know Canadian As are hard to get. They use your school’s scale, not a US scale, because it’d make no sense.

So I’m taking the ACT in 2 weeks. What score should I aim for? A couple schools are waiting on my score, and my plan is to ask other schools if they can update my profile. So far Yale and Tufts are the two schools that have guaranteed they will consider it. would a 33 be sufficient?

Tell you what - whatever you get is what you get - do your best.

It really depends on each school and how you feel about a 33 looking at the student profile and / or CDS.

But you can’t “plan” a score - you can do your best and it will end up where it does.

BC, on their student profile, show a 33/34 for 25/75.

But only 50% submitted.

So a 33, to me, I’d send in. Others may not.

You have to look school by school.

But it’s fantasy now til you have a # and the 4 way splits.

Get that - then review.

For now, focus on practice tests and getting your score up.

Truth is, ACT is tricky - my son went from a 32 to 24 on one section. Sometimes you just get a hard test…

So get prepped and see.

Yeah I agree. I also think for my context it would be good to submit since we have literally zero prep at our school. Only like 2 or 3 people took the SAT this year and like 1 person took the ACT.

Tufts ACT numbers are similar to BC’s (according to latest CDS). 33/35 for 25th/75th percentile (for enrolled first year students). Only 19% submitted an ACT score (and 37% submitted an SAT score) - probably some overlap there. I think I’d go ahead and submit a 33 to Tufts, particularly if all the sub-scores are more or less equally strong.

Ok great, I will be aiming for a 33 on my upcoming test.

Aim for a 36.

But get what you get!!

Don’t worry about a #.

Prep strong and do your best and you’ll deal with whatever the outcome is.

I was in email contact with my admissions counsellor at BC, and she said to expect a decision in the next week or so. Pretty exciting!

So I’m a bit confused with the statement and what you wrote earlier…about getting a decision in a week or two.

I’m taking based off the assumption I won’t be accepted into Boston College, also it would be good to have for aid purposes at state schools if I were to attend.

I’m pretty sure decisions will be released tomorrow. Last Friday I received an email saying that decisions would be available early next week, so since they weren’t released today it will be tomorrow. Anyone have any last minute predictions? I don’t know if this is a shot in the dark or if there’s a real possibility I get in.

I don’t know but you got an affordable safety or two so you’ve already won.

You applied so you have a chance. So congrats for applying !!! No app, no chance.

Btw I think u of Az is on your list.

@UTmeritseeker put out a nice write up on the school today related to its science offerings - they are well known for science and engineering - so if you get BC and it’s affordable. Awesome.

If not - you still have a great landing pad. Good luck.

Adding the link to their write up - again, hope BC works but if not you have GREAT options.

Hi to all! Do you know when holy cross will release ED2??
Thank you and good luck to all!

Website says by February 15th. Check when they released ED 1 to see if they released earlier than the final date to predict.
