Chance me ED 2 Boston College, US[+Canada] citizen from small Canadian town weak ECs[4.0 UW, Test optional]

Speaking of U of Arizona, they say they are awaiting “English proficiency” even though their website shows Canada is exempt from this, and I’m a US Citizen. I don’t want to take a TOEFL just for U of Arizona. What should I do?

I see -

I would not feed her per se other than the Bragg list.

Correct me if I’m wrong - but you are applying either to business, chem, engineering, or undecided.

My guess is - if she notes it, it will not impact admission. If she doesn’t note it, it will not impact.

It doesn’t add anything about you - how you are, your characteristics, what she loves about you.

If she feels it shows your passion (that’s a characteristic), then she should add - if she wants to.

Put it on your brag sheet.

Not sure how to answer your second comment - but I’d call and speak to an admissions advisor. Hopefully it’s something they can simply clear up.

Let us know if they can’t.

PS - are you in Quebec?

Best of luck.

No, I’m in British Columbia (Hence, UBC is my top Canadian school). I will try to call them on Wednesday.

Yeah, seems odd. Hopefully it’s just a glitch they can fix.

You care correct and hopefully it’s nothing more.

Or you might email your admissions counselor. It’s hit or miss on if they’ll respond.

Don’t forget, many will be closed in the next week.

Canada- British Columbia

The specific admission requirements relating to Canada- British Columbia are as follows:

Undergraduate

Required Documentation: High School Transcripts

Minimum Overall Grade Required: 73 or B equivalent

English Language Proficiency Required: No

I doubt that will move the needle on any college admissions. But your French teacher can decide if that is worth mentioning in the letter they write.

Absolutely - the fact you were invited + the seminars/workshops/presentations you attended (+ any way in which it was useful, for a later actovity, paper, discussion…). If you were selected thanks to her make sure to indicate and thank your teacher.
(It won’t change an admission decision but it’ll help your teacher show your dedication, intellectual curiosity + the fact you were invited is a form of recognition…)

Thank you! What are you majoring in?

One of the top schools for Chem in the country.
If you want to be a ChemE, you can’t even consider BC -so we are back to that.

Congrats on a great get ! You really can’t do much better.

Excellent! Hoping it’s an affordable option!!

Note that UMN engineering is not direct admit to a major. All engineering students take foundational courses and apply to a major at the end of sophomore year. See here:

Does anyone know what the internship scene for sciences is in Boston?

Run an indeed search.

Type in the zip code you want and the terms you want - for example internship + science or internship + chemistry , etc. and you can see.

Boston/Cambridge has some of the leading hospitals and has an incredible life sciences community. There are tons of jobs and opportunities.

This is very true. Perhaps related to the many very good hospitals in the area plus the famous universities in the area, the biotech industry in Boston and Cambridge is very strong.

My recollection is that you are a US and Canadian dual citizen, which removes any concerns about visas for working (or internships) in the US. Even for international students who are not US citizens, I think that there is some ability to participate in internships although I am not familiar with how hard this would be.

So I just finished my last applications. Here is my list of schools I’ve applied to:

Publics

UMN (EA II) → accepted, UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, Cal, UCI, UCD, UCR, UW-Seattle, UT Austin, ASU, UArizona, FSU, U Michigan

Privates

Cornell (ED I) → rejected, Boston College (ED II), Boston U, Yale, Tufts, NEU, NYU, U Miami, WUSL, Emory U & Oxford, USC, Bates college, College of Holy cross, Middlebury, Grinell, Oberlin

Thoughts?? Anyone have any general ideas?

Does anyone know how much percent matters to schools? Especially for our senior year. I have straight A’s so far this year, but I’m a bit worried since they aren’t as strong as previous year ex: 90% instead of 95%.

Depends on the schools convert rates. For most a 90% is an A. I wouldn’t give too much concern.
