Your GC can send the Midyear report Feb 20-21 or even 22 with (or without) the scores.
You just have to be sure thr scores are high enough so you can let them know you switch from TO.
Would that be too late for most colleges? Iâm not sure when they expect mid-year reports.
January or February. If they accept results that arrive Feb 20 it means Feb 20-22 is within their deadlines.
If colleges want the mid year report earlier, theyâll email your GC who can offer to send it Feb 22 or send it end of January without updated semester grades. Typically colleges will complete everything else and wait for the midyear report to confirm or infirm their conclusion wrt 1st cut si Feb 22 should be okay.
Ok great. Also, how can test scores be put on our school transcripts? I donât think anyone here has done that before.
I missed part of this discussion I guess. Wondering what outcome requires an ACT score in the top 2%. (Sounds like a little scary when itâs a one-shot deal.)
Well, that means 33+, which I think is possible. Iâm also applying for accommodations, so if they are approved, that would make things much better.
Err, your GC adds a page with âtest scoresâ on top or a line at the bottom of the transcript. Other test scores can be placed there too (French tests, proficiency testsâŠ) if you ever took one.
What BC says:
Students who apply as test-optional candidates and later wish to have the Admission Committee consider their standardized test results may request to do so in writing at bcapplicant@bc.edu. For full consideration, students should contact us directly as close to our deadlines as possible.
They also say this - so Feb is too late:
For Early Decision II and Regular Decision applicants, we will consider SAT and ACT results taken through their respective December testing dates.
Youâd need to look at each school.
Note - for U of Arizona, your test doesnât matter. Your merit comes soley from the GPA. ASU uses test tho.
Yes, I mean for other schools since I know it is too late for any ED ll.
You have to look T ea h is my point. Itâs too late for BC RD.
It may or may not be too late for others.
You should see if itâs worthwhile to even take.
If not itâs ok. You can step back and feel good about where you are.
It is worthwhile. I have contacted about 25 schools regarding the Feb ACT, and around half of them have said they will accept it.
25 - is the list growing? OK - glad you did your resarch.
Run the ASU merit calculator with your SAT and then change to an ACT thatâs higher. See if it changes.
It might not.
Anyway, youâre in good shape - better than you think you are!!!
Test scores are only used to enhance the application and to enhance the application at the colleges where OP is applying/hoping to apply, thatâs what itâd take. Others donât submit.
I spoke with my French Immersion teacher today, and she said she would write me the letter of rec. She asked me to give her specific things she should highlight. What would be some good things for me to say? What do colleges look for in recommendations?
You should give each teacher a brag sheet or mini resume - of things you do outside the classroom that sheâs not aware of.
She knows you and can speak to your personality, characteristics, but this can help her tie these things to you.
You should not be directly telling her what to write.
I told my kids to list the schools of interest too. While it doesnât matter, it provides a connection so that they can see where you are trying to go.
Good luck.
Ps she can google it to find out how to write a good one.
The letter from your French teacher should tell how well you performed on her class. If there was anything notable about what you did in that class, this teacher should note that. Iâve written letters, and have included things like student initiative, progress, reliability and responsibility, and anything extra the student might have done for our studies.
In my opinion, the brag sheet is valuable for your counselor who might not have any idea what you do.
But this teacher should be writing a letter about you as a (hopefully) strong French class student. If any of your outside activities relate to FrenchâŠthat might be good to include. But, for example, if you are in youth symphony, or do some sort of special program on math, I fail to see how this would be relevant to the letter your French teacher writes.
Your brag sheet is a way for your teacher to see why you chose them and their subject, by highlighting important things about you in that class and by extension thanking your teacher for what they taught you:
What stands out about this subject, why have you stuck with it all these years?
Has any fact or concept seemed mind blowing when you were first exposed to it?
What chapters or activities struck you?
What was hard and what did you learn from that difficulty?
Were you able to help anyone? Does a group project stand out and what was it, what did you do, how did it proceed, was it fun/social/a learning experience, why does it matter to you even now?
Will you continue with it if it fits in your schedule, do you plan to take a couple advanced French classes in college?
I participated in a national Youth Francophone conference at our local university. Would this be worth mentioning? I didnât have any role in it; I just was invited. This is the only thing related to French Iâve really done.
Just one day ? I wouldnât.
You need ECs to show tenure and impact. Quality over quantity.
Will adding that you attended a conference enhance your app ?
There is no magic bullet for BC. Statistically itâs an uphill climb. Maybe it happens. But if not - are ASU, U of A or UBC your desired choices ? If not, find one.
I donât see how that conference enhances your candidacy. If anything it shows list building and one may take that to think your real activities may also lack impact.
Good luck.
I meant for the recommendation letter that my French teacher is writing, not on the activity list.
