I think you probably mean that you are in the top 25 percent of your class? 25th percentile means that you are in the bottom quarter of your class. In your last thread you said you are in the top 20 percent of your class and have a 1500 on your SAT. Maybe you could clarify that.
My answer remains the same - Emory is a reach for you. If it is absolutely your first choice and affordable for your family, go ahead and apply early decision. Understand that early decision is a binding agreement and you are committing yourself to attend if you are accepted. Have you visited? Are you sure you prefer a D3 midsized private school with no football team to UGA? Would you like suggestions for schools similar to Emory that would be an easier admit?
According to Emory’s Common Data Set, 84% of entering students were in the top 10% of their high school class. And that’s the cohort that matriculated - the accepted students who chose to go elsewhere (often because they were super-strong applicants who got in somewhere even more competitive) aren’t counted in that sample. So the percentage of acceptances with a top-10% class rank is probably even higher than the CDS shows.
That’s not as bad as some elite schools, where getting in with a below-top-10% rank is basically unheard of for unhooked applicants. You have a strong SAT, good course rigor, lots of EC’s… if your essay and recommendations resonate, it could happen. (Without ED, I’d say it was a very low chance, but in the ED cycle, maybe.) If it’s your true first choice, it makes sense to shoot your shot with an ED application and see what happens!
Have you considered adding Tulane to your EA apps? It comes to mind because I see it as somewhat like Emory as a southern mid-sized urban-adjacent selective private, but more like UGA in its vibe/energy - so depending on which attributes of each school you like best, it might be a fit (or not - could be either best or worst of both worlds!), and it has a strong poli sci major with several tracks.
Just to piggy back on this response, if you feel Tulane is a decent back-up option to Emory, apply EA and you’re almost certain to get an email to opt into ED2 if you want (if Emory doesn’t work out). Admission to Tulane EA (or RD) is iffy for anyone - they love ED.
OP: Clarification regarding your SAT score would be helpful. Earlier in 2024, you wrote that your SAT score was 1400 (720/680). Recently you wrote that it was 1500 and now 1550. Are you just seeking chances for various SAT scores ?
Chances at Emory are low based on your grades/class rank. Consider SMU in Dallas, Texas or College of Charleston Honors College.
Something is not adding up here. Last week OPs SAT score was 1500 and class rank top 20 percent. Now the SAT is 1550 and class rank is top 25 percent. According to the College Board, the results from the August SAT will be released starting on Sept 6. I just looked at that thread from February, and OP said he was a senior last school year.Maybe @cmonroe06 is asking about hypotheticals, but the advice people are giving him is only as good as the information he is providing.
