Emory is definitely in my top 3 choices. I am very attracted to their renown research program and the opportunities it offers. I have little information, however, of the GPA that Emory accepts and how I stack up. I am currently a junior, and my freshman and sophomore grades were decent. (Cumulative, a 3.72 unweighted.) First semester junior year was not so hot. 4 B’s, 2 A’s, taking 2 AP classes. This semester will probably end with 2 or 3 B’s and 3 or 4 A’s. I will be taking AP Biology over the summer, and 3 additional AP’s next year, along with either Adv. Environmental Science or Biology Research & Experimental Design. I got a 31 on the mock-ACT freshman year, and will be taking it next month, shooting for a 32-34. I dance for 3-5 hours a day, and have participated in several productions and choreography projects. I have also been in 3 theatre productions (1 in school, 2 out of school). I have won a few awards for ballet. Currently I’m running an Etsy shop where I hand make and sell dance wear, and I plan to soon create a real website for it. I run it pretty much by myself, though I have a few friends who help me sew. I have a growing social media following for it.
I had a bad experience at my school freshman year, so halfway through sophomore year I transferred to a much better, but certainly more challenging school. At my old school I had been gliding by, never having homework. I didn’t learn a single thing in math and when I arrived at my new school I had no idea what was going on in half of my subjects. It had a negative impact on my grades for sure. I will be moving cross-country for senior year to attend a boarding school for ballet. I liked the current school I am at but I know I would regret not seizing this opportunity. Will these school changes have any effect on my application/acceptance?
Thanks for the help.
Did you take the mock ACT under actual test conditions? If yes, then it isn’t far-fetched to think of getting 31-34 (but I will chance you based on 31). That said, what are your non-reaches?
Emory: Reach
I did take it under actual test conditions. I have been taking an ACT prep course as well, for about 3 months now.
Non-reaches: University of Washington- Seattle, UC Davis, USC (multiple family members professors there), Brandeis (maybe more of a reach), Rutgers (safety).
UWA: Low match/Match
UCD: Low match/Match
USC: High match
Brandeis: High match
Rutgers (other than pharmacy): Safety
Rutgers 0-6 PharmD: High match
