Hey!! Im also applying to Andover, Hotchkiss, and Madeira if u could check out my thread I’d appreciate it. I also attend a private school in Africa and I think u have a great shot. I hope you’ve scheduled all ur interviews already since its application season and most schools wont have any spots left. I’d say some cons of your application might be not playing an instrument and if you are applying for finaid that may decrease ur chances but overall it’s looking pretty good!

How can not playing an instrument be a con???

While playing an instrument can be a pro on an application, NOT playing an instrument is NOT necessarily a con if there are other activities. After all, there are only so many hours in a day, and no one can wear all the hats.

Im not sure 've heard that a few times, but in her case she has many extracurriculars to make up for that so thats great!

thanks for the replies. also any essay tips are very welcome

Thats a no, playing an instrument can definitely help but your not going to get a negative if you don’t.

But the key thing is if your good at that instrument, if your just an average player they won’t really care.

Not playing an instrument has zero impact on being accepted. There are a ton of activities and spaces to fill at all of these schools. Musical is just one attribute.
Lean into your strengths. Also were you failing 7th grade or on honor roll. Just be sure whatever your story/journey is that it is clear. AOs at these schools are likely familiar with the nuances of your regional education of similar countries. If not the interview is a great place to share.

Good luck

Hi! I’m applying to PEA, but it’s the only BS my parents will let me apply to so I can’t give advice for any school apps otherwise. However, you look like an amazing student and you probably have a great shot at getting in. Schools are always looking at growth and your drive and you have both! Good luck with applications, I don’t really know when Andover or the other school’s apps are due but I know Exeter’s is in 9 days (yikes I’m freaking out). Anyways, don’t stress! You are a really strong applicant and I’m sure all the schools will see it.
Best of luck!!!

Failing for fall and winter terms then miraculously got onto honours roll in spring term. I still dont know what happened…

If I may ask why wont your parents let you apply to any other BS?

My parents are considering stopping me from going to Madeira because of lesbianism. (im Christian) Soooo yh everyone has their reasons

My parents (specifically my dad) don’t like the idea of me going across the country for schooling, even if I would have life-changing opportunities there. It’s not that they don’t take that into account; it’s just that they don’t understand why I’d want to leave Kansas and the family for schooling. Basically, if I don’t get into Exeter, I’m stuck in Kansas forever lol. I am working on getting them to let me apply to more schools for my sophomore year though!

Not me whose literally leaving my parents in another country to go to stay in the US. I’ll be staying with my aunt during the holidays dw.

LOLLL Its the other way around for me. I think my dad likes Madeira because there will be no boys to possibly distract me.

Frankly, that might be a problem.

Um… Pretty sure there are lesbians at PEA.

Do they think an all girls school will turn you into a lesbian?!

(This is as polite as I can be while scraping my jaw off the floor.)

There’s some truth in that. My kid went to a coed BS, but is now at one of the Seven Sisters, as are some of her friends from BS (although she’s oddly the only one from her BS at that particular one).

dude no, one of the reasons i want to go to a boarding school is because I got outed at my current school for being bi, and literally there have been nasty rumors at the Middle and the High school so there’s no escaping that ig. Especially bc kids (surprisingly) and adults at both schools and the community aren’t the most… supportive of it lol. My parents don’t know about all the harassment and comments but I would think that schools like Exeter esp. bc they are pretty progressive would be more accepting for stuff like that. :joy:
also what the heck, I politely want your parents to slip on a banana peel for that :frowning:

politely???
