State: Utah
GPA: 3.6 UW 3.8W
Class rank: 100/300
ACT:27
URM: Latino
Took a challenging course load every year
My gpa increased every year I had only a 3.2 freshman year and junior year i got straight As with 3 AP classes.
ECs: About 500 volunteer hours
Jobs: A few random ones
Leadership: Team captain in varsity a sport
Also if you could predict my chances at ASU’s honors college, Vassar College, and GWU.
Standing alone, your GPA is considerably low. But once admissions officers see your actual transcript, they will see not only improvement, but strong Junior year grades, both of which are very desirable characteristics. I think you’ll be ok even with that gpa.
Is there any way you can bring up your ACT? If your ACT were higher you would have much better chances for all of these schools. With a little stronger ACT and kick a$$ essays, your chances of getting in would be exponentially higher.
As of now:
Berkley: High Reach
ASU Honors College: Match/ High Match
Vassar: Reach (if your ACT were higher your chances would be much better)
GWU: Match/ High Match
Do you have any really powerful hooks? What would you say makes you a unique applicant who would contribute to a class of really diverse and interesting people? If you have something about you that is exceptionally unique, be sure to accentuate that in your essays.
Good Luck!!!
@mayajumbalaya Thank you very much. One thing I would say is that In terms of athletics I would be the top recruit of the year at Vassar and GWU. Would this change anything
For Berkeley, your score ACT score and GPA are low.
Also, since you are from Utah, can you afford the OOS rates at a UC? The UC’s are funded by California taxpayers so there is no significant financial aid for OOS students. Plan on paying $55K per year.
UC’s can’t use affirmative action, so your URM hook won’t work for the UC’s. Affirmative Action is illegal at the UC’s.
You should try to increase you act score or try to take the SAT may be you will do better you pretty good ec’s for both asu and Berkeley, the thing you need to do is you should write a good essay and try to increase ur scores at least you can get a scholarship from one of the universities ur are admitted to
For Vassar you have to be a credible candidate separate from the athletics. And, tbh, you don’t want to go to Vassar if you aren’t pretty serious about academics.
@ContextisCeE have you been in discussions with any coaches? What sport?
Berkeley is the biggest reach, but I think you have a good shot at the others. Good luck!
Chance me back please:
