If your budget is 20K per year, then you don’t have the luxury of “not focusing on it” for now. It needs to be the single most important factor in your list.

If BU and NYU are showing a family contribution of under 20K then terrific. Can you clarify?

Also, what’s the highest math SAT score you’ve gotten?

My budget is preferably 20k and is the number i get from the NPCs from Boston and NYU which is doable. The budget is flexible based on the school so again, I can’t give you a solid number.

690 is my math SAT so far. I’m waiting for my other results to submit it to the school.

Did either of them graduate?

If yes, then you’re not considered first generation (except maybe at a couple of schools)

Like others, I worry about budget.

Budgets are not flexible - if you can only afford $20K, then that’s what you can afford?

If you got into MIT but it’s $90K, how would you afford it?

So you need a # and to hit it. Also, on the in-state schools, are you Bright Futures eligible?

So another question - is the 1400 an actual and you’re hoping in October to go higher or it’s what you are predicting. For engineering, the math score will matter.

It’s hard to chance you given I don’t understand the UK system - but based on #s provided including the 1400:

  1. BU - no and not accredited for Aero
  2. NYU - no - please note NYUs engineering campus is in Brooklyn, not Manhattan and not accredited for aero
  3. U Michigan - no - and I can’t see you getting close to cost here
  4. UF - no
  5. RPI - maybe - but not at your cost. They will need/want more $$
  6. RIT - maybe - but not at your cost. They will need/want more $$. Not accredited for aero.
  7. FSU - no - and you know, it’s campus is a few miles from the main campus. Not accredited for aero.
  8. USF - 50/50 - doesn’t have accredited aero.
  9. ERAU - yes but much more than $20K

While don’t you have meets need in-state Miami, which has accredited Aero on your list (did you check the NPC). And you have ERAU - it won’t work - but you might look at Florida Tech too.

USF isn’t accredited for aero. But UCF is - so if you want aero, you need to sub those two. Of course, you can do MechE (and that won’t hurt you for aero) at FAU (likely), FIU (reach), Florida Polytechnic (target), UNF (likely), and UWF (likely).

So in my mind, you need another list. If you get a 1420 SAT and have a 3.5 (not 3.49), U of Alabama will be $20K-ish. So that’s your UF/FSU sub. It’s ABET accredited in Aero so you’ll get the same job or same outcome at least as UF. UAH - which is smaller and surrounded by Aero Companies and Miss State are two others you can look into that might get to budget - if you deliver on the SAT.

So you need to redo your list.

You’ve done like many - you’ve built a list based on desire - but desire doesn’t get you in or more importantly an affordable in.

You have few options - and if you don’t have an SAT yet (you noted a 690 but not other scores - like you don’t have English???), you have even less.

If you deliver on the SAT, you will have some out of state at $20K-ish.

But in the end, you need a firm budget - maybe it’s higher than $20K and it will open up more doors?

But you can’t “check” later - that might mean community college.

I think that USF is likely, but I am not sure that it is a safety. RIT might be likely for admissions, but affordability looks questionable to me (apparently it does not meet full need, and you need a lot of financial aid with a budget of $20,000/year).

I would be somewhat surprised if you were to get accepted to any of BU or NYU or UF. While it might happen, I would not expect it.

I would be very surprised if Michigan were to end up being affordable, even if you do get in. Your stats also seem low for Michigan.

I think that you need to look for more (or at least some) affordable safeties. My best guess is that these are likely to come from in-state public schools, but I will admit that I do not know public schools in Florida much particularly other than UF.

And if your parents graduated from universities outside of the US then you are not “first generation”.

And with a $20,000/year budget, the cost of education needs to be high on your list of considerations.
