Adding from the Brown University website international financial aid page:
“International students are eligible to apply for University financial aid. We meet full demonstrated need for students who are admitted provided they apply for financial aid at the time they apply for admission.”
Note words “who are admitted”. That means they don’t have to admit you.
It’s important to note that they upfront tell you that they will not fund your summer expenses. That means housing, furniture, toiletries, food, transportation and health insurance. Being housed by the university is vastly different than having to pay rent, Internet, and daily expenses to live in the US. I have no idea what the rents are in that area but I’m sure they’re pretty expensive!!
“Immigration regulations and restrictions on off-campus summer employment in the United States make it imperative that overseas applicants know exactly where they can obtain funds (e.g., family resources, government grants or savings). All applicants should consult local education officials and make every effort to obtain outside sources of financial aid.”
