(Egyptian)

If my I’m not up to par with Brown standards, any advice on how to improve my resume?

You are in if you are AA

^Agreed. Great GPA, but mediocre numbers and ECs.

^ Yeah, I realize I’m no strong contender. It’s definitely a reach school for me.

You actually aren’t AA. There’s a government website for the qualifications of each ethnicity. You have to be black to be AA. They set this qualification to eliminate white people from South Africa from saying they are AA. And they will check your ethnicity so you can get in serious trouble.

Based on the options they give you, the only thing that makes sense is African American because Egypt is in Africa.
My friend asked the admissions officer at Vanderbilt what to put and he too said that African American is the only one that fits for Egyptians.

I understand the general perception of AA is someone who is black and black only, but its a much more flexible term.

^Remember that you are required to list the country you identify your heritage with too. Yes, “African-American” may be a flexible term, but the benefits that it carriers for college admissions will most likely not carry over to someone who is Egyptian.

Egyptian sounds more “middle-eastern” to me.

^ That’s not an ethnicity.

@billabong- I didn’t really expect to get the full benefits of being AA anyways
So in that case, my chances of getting into Brown have greatly diminished =P
Oh well.

Just as a matter of inquiry, what happens if an Asian just doesn’t report their ethnicity? If the colleges can assume it from their last name, will they?

By the way, your chances are good if they count you as AA, but if not, then you are probably in the middle of the applicant pool, though your rank and GPA are impressive.
