Agreed - not surprised. The hope was if OP is full pay - and BM and F&M will come through. Both are vastly different than Nova/FSU, etc.
Chance me for Bryn Mawr and Lehigh RD and Villanova ED2 [89 GPA, 1410 SAT, political science prelaw]
All 4 of these colleges have similar acceptance rates - high 20s to low 30s. All pay some attention to standardized test scores, which is a plus for you because your 1410 is more or less mid range for all of them. All 4 are need aware for admissions to one degree or another.
I think that your chances are best at Lehigh because they are the least need aware of the four and as Publisher said, Lehigh is known for its engineering school, which is where its admissions are most competitive. Applying for Arts & Sciences should give you an advantage.
I think that you are reasonably competitive for all of the other three as well.
i got into franklin and marshall last night with 28k/year!
Just a word about Franklin & Marshall. It has long had the reputation as being the school where the Washington bureaucrats send their kids. I have a cousin who went to F&M. Sure enough, her father was upper management at Amtrak.
Given your interest in poli-sci, there’s something to be said for going to a school where you’ll be rubbing elbows with the daughters and sons of the people who actually make the government work. Congratulations! ![]()

Congrats to you!! Is it affordable? Fine admit.
It’s very different, very small - than say a Lehigh and especially an FSU, not to mention a Bing, Rutgers, Penn State - so your list is a bit unusual.
What are you actually seeking in a school?
honestly location matters most for me i wanna be in ny,pa, or nj. i applied to the florida schools just for fun lol
The F&M discount makes its cost comparable to out of state cost at Penn State and slightly higher than Rutgers out of state. Of course Binghamton and Stony Brook remain far and away the most affordable options.
OK - but F&M is 1800 kids. It’s a smaller campus, right in a nice, smaller city.
PSU is 42K and in the sticks although the “city” it’s in has what you need -but not walkable like F&M.
What are you seeking in a school - besides three states?
And what can you afford, etc.
All things equal - F&M and PSU are just so far apart from one another - forget distance. Given your NYU ED - I’m not really sure what you want….
i don’t really know what i exactly want either that’s why i did a variety. rn penn state is very low on my list
Have you visited any of these (or any) schools so you can start to see what you like?
The good news is, once you have your affordability figured out, you can see which that you got into you can afford - and go visit them. When there do deep dives - not just tours - but stop kids on campus, talk to them, set up an academic visit, walk the surrounding area etc.
Then you might “fall in love or like” with one - but only do this on schools that you get into that you can afford.
Since you have no feeling for what you like, this can help.
Immediately after leaving, record your feelings on your phone about the school - so when you get to the end and say, I don’t really know, you can look back at what you said, your excitement levels, etc.
If you really get into a difficult, just compare two schools - head to head - see if one stands out - then you can eliminate the other.
You build a list on location and that’s ok - but there’s a lot more than location that matters - from size to environment (rural, suburban, urban, etc.), majors offered, greek life, sports, etc.
And you need to factor these things in plus budget - not sure if that’s a concern but you have law school too so 7 years of expense.
Good luck.
i’ve visited lehigh but im planning to go back to lehigh after i get a few more acceptances. prob will go to lafayette and bryn mawr too
You still haven’t gotten into to BM and Laf, right?
You should visit F&M too.
Make sure you visit your acceptances. They are more important than the “hope tos” although hopefully you’ll have a full understanding of possibilities soon.
Seems like you want small, not the big publics you got into although Bing is smaller than Rutgers, as an example.
Good luck.
Good point about Binghamton being smaller than Rutgers, @tsbna44. It is less than half the size of Rutgers and about a third the size of Penn State.
Harper College (7000+ full time undergrads), which is at the core of Binghamton, is an excellent liberal arts college in its own right. Binghamton offers Poli-Sci of course, but for someone interested in law school, their major in Philosophy, Politics, and Law may be even a better choice. This major seems to be viewed particularly favorably by law schools. It originated about a century ago at Oxford, was brought across the Atlantic by Harvard, was gradually adopted by some dozens of colleges, and now fewer than 100 of the 2300+ colleges in the country offer it. And Binghamton is one of them. They have a particularly good description of the major on their website. It is worth the read. It is is also possible to major in PP&L or Poli-Sci and combine it with a second major or minor in liberal arts like Human Rights or one from the School of Management or the School of Community & Public Affairs to customize and individualize your academic experience.
In addition to academic excellence, Binghamton will save its students a lot of money, leaving financial resources to be applied to law school, which doesn’t come cheap either.
Yes I am still waiting for BM and laf. I will def visit all acceptances.
Great - because they won’t all be back to back, have your family take a video of you immediately after, b4 you leave each one - talking about what you like, don’t like, etc. including the campus, kids, surrounds.
So in a month or two later when you have to make a final call - you don’t say - I forget what I thought, etc. They’ll have your emotion of - I love how F&M is accessible to downtown Lancaster and all it offers….vs. I like Bing but it’s kind of on its own.
Not saying it’s the case - but just an example - I started doing that with my kids because visits start to blend.
It’s very helpful.
Good luck.
