I’m a high school junior who wants to become a dentist as soon as possible, and I’m currently looking into bs/dds programs!
Stats:
GPA: 5.52/5.00 (4.42 on a 4 scale)
ACT: 36 (36, 36, 36, 36)
APs: APBio, Music Theory, and Lit. (Planning to take APChem, CalcBC, and Latin next year, possibly AP physics as well)
Awards:
Medals at Science Olympiad (Regional)
Top 10 Vocalist for National jazz festival
ECs:
Stage manager of school’s vocal jazz group (3yrs)
Praise Team Leader at Church Youth Group (2yrs)
Various vocal competitions/performances/musicals
Latin program abroad in Italy summer of freshman year
Saber Fencing (2yrs)
Tutoring (30+ hours)
Medical Missions in the DR and in Panama (Dentistry specific, one week each)
50+ hours volunteering with kids at Church
Grew up in my dad’s dental office (receptionist/organizational duties in middle school, shadowing in high school. Around 5-6 years total? Not exactly sure)
As you can see, my stats are fairly average and my ECs are lacking. Assuming essays are average, do I have a chance of entering these programs? Also, if anyone has any suggestions for extracurriculars related to dentistry, I’d love to hear them. It may be a bit late, but I’d like to try whatever I can!
Thank you all very much.
