Chance me for Business/MIS/CIS Major in CSU, UCs and Others 3.43 Weighted GPA CA Resident [3.00/3.30/3.37 GPA for UC, 3.37 GPA for CSU]

Thank you

I see you say no real budget in the original post. If that is the case, Santa Clara Leavey MIS has excellent outcomes and can be considered.

From SCU:

Those who submitted scores had an average SAT of 1,413 and ACT of 32. The average unweighted GPA for the Class of 2027 is 3.73.

Leavey is quite competitive. My guess is that OP’s stats make this a true reach school. Full pay may help.

Agree. But they are test optional. ED is an option if after research and visit feel strongly that it is the right school.

Other options to consider: UCSC has Technology Information Management which is similar to MIS. UCI has Business Information Management. UCR/Cal State Fullerton have a business school with Information Management.

Great advice. Not keen on SCU. Didn’t know UCSC had similar program.

So you don’t seem keen on the AZ schools. If not, you have in state options for sure.

I am keen on Arizona schools, mostly University of Arizona. But in state will be more preferable if I get good options.

You can also consider the new undergraduate business major starting at UC Davis. You will have to customize and make it MIS like with electives which is probably not hard at a solid STEM school like UC Davis.

Thank you for that information. I did look it up and looks like a good fit. But UC Davis is highly selective.

FYI about the UC Davis New Business major:

New Business major available Fall 2025. Target enrollment for Freshman applicants is 175 and for students planning to change majors after admission, a 50 student limit is proposed.

Thank you and yes, that makes it ultra selective.
UC Davis is also known for great graduate program in business. So definitely, this BS degree will attract a lot of candidates.

If you go by historical trends, the CA schools aren’t there.

That doesn’t mean they won’t get similar outcomes but Tucson is a MIS power house and ASU not far off.

But Arizona is not direct admit if that’s a concern. ASU is if you met the Calc requirement.

Other than lower cost, why is CA preferable - or is that why ?

ASU business does not require calculus in high school for direct admission. However, the business BS programs (which include CIS) list higher HS GPA, SAT, or ACT score for direct admission than general admission requirements at ASU. See Direct Admission to Undergraduate Programs | ASU W. P. Carey and compare to First-year admission requirements | Admission | ASU .

Thx for the correction. This is what I saw.

Explore 30+ business degrees that include calculus-based, non-calculus based, and STEM-designated program options.

This turned out to be a very insightful discussion on MIS. I am thankful to all of you and appreciate every bit of information.

A smaller school with similar major (OTM) is the University of Portland. We have relatives and friends who have graduated from the school with slightly higher stats. They loved their experience and received a good education. The school is a very good school in the NW, but has a pretty high acceptance rate of 70%. They have a strong alumni network in Portland, Oregon, some in Washington, Nor Cal, and Hawaii.

Just note it and SCU are religious institutions - if OP is ok with that.

Keeping all of you updated as you all have helped me with all the information:
I got accepted to ASU in CIS and UofAz in MIS with merit scholarship as part of EA. US News ranks UofAz MIS as #2 and that makes me feel I am already set on my out of state decision. Now I will be focusing on UC and CSUs.
