Major: Journalism (alternate choice: Linguistics)

IGETC: done
CCCs: Santa Barbara City College and Santa Monica College
I’m a non-traditional student, 27 years old and have held down full-time jobs since I was 18 (in broadcasting, publishing and currently in the tech industry). I had a rocky first few years at CC when I was 18-23 (some D’s and F’s but have retaken the courses and used Academic Renewal for two, not related to my major), but have recently held a 4.0 in my recent semesters and in all my prereqs. Does CSU care about upward trends at all?
First of all, CSUN is not accepting any applications from schools not within their local service area starting in Fall 2016 and SBCC is not within the local area, but SMC is… it all depends on where you took the majority of your credits. For more info: http://www.csun.edu/admissions-records/transfer-impaction. As far as upward trends, not much unfortunately. The application is very numbers based. They don’t have a section for you to write a personal statement or explain your life anywhere, just list what job you currently have, income, residency history, etc. But with that in mind you’re at a great advantage having a 4.0 within your major pre-reqs and your major is non-impacted at CSUN but every major is impacted at CSULB… decent chance of getting in I’d say. Good luck!
I don’t know what she’s talking about…ALL CSU’s are accepting from outside of service areas, the website she provided just states that they hold the GPA to a higher standard. Meaning, you need to have a high gpa to compete with everyone else.
With the D’s and F’s, since you retook them it should be fine.
