Relationship with the School

  • One of my recommendations sent both her kids to DA, she has “family connections”
  • I have spent my last two summers on DA’s campus at their Summer art programs, and am working as a CIT for them this year
  • The Head of Development is a regular at my parents’ cafĂ©

My Interview

I was told that I am competing for 25 spots. Do I have a chance? Does being a day student help at all?

Many schools, particularly those in more out of the way locales, are eager to enroll local kids when they can. It helps forge ties with the local community. It is also important that the kids they admit succeed there for this to work.

Someone with more inside knowledge would know competitive your pool is. If you are willing to repeat 10th, please make sure they know that and can read your application for both 10th and 11th.

Agreeing with @gardenstategal

You should mention in your application and send a follow up email to admissions office that you are open to a 10th grade repeat and that you would like your application to be considered for both 10th and 11th.
That would increase the number of spots from 25, since as far as I know, DA accepts a lot more students into 10th grade

Agree with both posters above that you should definitely tell Deerfield you are applying for repeat 10th rather than 11th grade. I always got the impression that 11 grade admission especially at Deerfield is mostly for sports.

Also, most local kids from the area are there for their sports skills not so much for their academics unless they are faculty kids.
