WORK EXPERIENCE:

 • sales associate @ Forever 21 (11)
 • Hollister sales associate (12)

Teacher Recommendations: Calc A and BC teacher- should be super fly, Bio- a little better than generic, Golf Coach- excellent

Essays: Hopefully great. I wrote about the impact art has had on me because I don’t think this side of me shows through my application. I’m a decent writer, I’d like to think.

Financial Aid: No

My biggest accomplishment would be golf because I started playing it my freshman year and I spend at least 3 hours practicing it everyday. It was the most time-consuming activity I had, and I’ve learned the most life lessons from it.

Thanks in advance!

I’d say low reach! Which is about as good as it gets for anyone for Duke in my opinion. Good luck with the application! Very strong profile

**EDIT: Chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569147-slightly-above-avg-student.html

Everything is looking good although that physics score is ehh. I’d say you’re a very competitive applicant that has as good a shot as any of the better applicants out there. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1568205-new-scores-chance-me-georgia-tech-ea.html

GPA and scores are solid, definitely beneficial. Course load for 9-11 is average (with the exception of math, that’s strong) but your senior year course load is incredibly impressive, with good grades on your quarter 1 grade report, should be beneficial. Now we move on to the EC’s, I’ll take those on one at a time.
Golf: As a lifetime golfer, I truly know what a big commitment truly practicing takes. I would definitely highlight that the first time you picked up a club was your freshman year, because a lot of high school golfers, at least in my area, have been playing their whole life. The actual awards aren’t that impressive from a golfer’s standpoints, receiving them with your level of experience, however, is incredibly impressive. Definitely a beneficial EC.
Clarinet and music: Shows commitment, while not stellar compared to the other musical applicants, the length of time you have been playing the clarinet stands out. Somewhat beneficial to your app.
JV Badminton: Nothing to special here, being captain of the JV, although cool, isn’t that much of a factor to adcoms. This is a neutral activity.
Graphic Illustration: At first I glanced over this one, anyone with a computer can be a freelance graphic artist. But since you are writing your essay about this, it becomes a major activity. Your essay will really have to sell this as a passion, not just a “side hobby”. If the essay does a good job at this, then it should help out a little.
The rest: All pretty good, nothing exceptional, but all definitely help your chances out a little.
Work: Holding two separate jobs for only one year might raise the question of why they only lasted one year. I say these are neutral.

Overall, because of your outstanding academic performance and your golf, I think you have a decent chance of getting in. Definitely a high match (low reach for Pratt). Best of luck! And thanks for chancing me.

I think you have as good a chance as anyone else. I wouldn’t worry about your physics score because if you look at the percentile ranges a 680 is still up there. You have a strong course load, good scores, a solid GPA. Everyone knows admissions can be crapshoot but I would say low reach.
Best of luck. Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569193-will-chance-back-chances-brown-georgetown-sfs.html

Are you applying to Trinity or Pratt?

All of your test scores are great, except for maybe that Physics score, which should not be too important unless you are applying to Pratt. Even then it will still only be a minor thing the AOs will notice.

You golf stuff is very impressive that will definitely get noticed. All of your other ECs are solid and I would say they are a bit above average for Duke applicants.

With solid letters and essays you should have a great shot! are you writing your EC essay about golf? Make sure you write a great Why Duke essay! I would say it is a high match/low reach. Good luck! I hope to see you at Duke next year!

Chance me back? I am applying ED at Duke as well. Well I already submitted my app. But please tell me what you think. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1561842-chance-me-duke-ed-will-chance-back-within-24-hours.html#post16449634

I think you have a really good chance of getting into Duke, even if it’s not guaranteed. Very impressive

Mine please?: talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1568705-updated-chance-transfer.html

You seem like a very qualified applicant, but just remember that it’s Duke and they are receiving the best applicants from the entire nation. Low reach.

Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569152-stanford-ea-lets-gooo.html

Thanks guys!

Just for some clarification:

 1. I’m applying to Trinity and I am trying to stay as far away from physics as possible because it’s my least favorite subject in the world xD
 2. My work at Forever 21 was seasonal hence I only put down one year. I’m currently still working at Hollister

I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t get in at Duke but at these top schools, nothing is always a lock. GPA is great, ACT is really nice, EC’s look good, and the ED should help for sure! Congrats on a spectacular HS career and good luck!
Chance me?http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569187-chance-me-university-delaware-lehigh-virginia-tech-purdue.html

Definitely a low reach. Your extracurricular activities and work experience are a boost.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569420-chance-me-not-another-generic-thread.html

Low Reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569471-pls-chance-me-u-rochester-notre-dame-possibly-tufts.html

Thanks for the positive feedback! I’ve decided to not submit my physics SAT 2 score.

Definitely within the realm of possibility, but, as others have said before, it’s not a lock.

Didn’t really say whether you are a recruited athlete or not. Assuming you are not good enough to get a sniff from the Duke golf coach, I’d say that EC is a little overrated. Grades and scores are good, excluding the SAT I and II. Low reach.

I think your EC’s and grades are par for Duke!!! Low reach and good luck!!!
