Chance me for Duke?

Sooo I’m applying early action to Duke. I plan to double major in biomedical engineering and computer engineering.

Female
White (might be able to claim native american)
super competitive public high school
GPA: 3.26
Weighted GPA: 3.96
1 ap sophomore year, 4 junior year, 6 senior year
SAT: 2280 (800 writing, 760 math, 720 reading)
SAT II score pending (math II, physics, biology)
Class rank- in top half weighted, suuuuper low unweighted…

************ The reason for my rediculously low GPA/class rank is that I had major surgery on my (dominant) arm in tenth and eleventh grade (ulna collateral ligament reconstruction aka Tommy John surgery)… Really brought down my grades (couldn’t write most of 10/11th grade, physical therapy 3x week, etc). I plan to tell them this but I’m not sure if it will have any impact…

Extracurriculars:
----Travel softball 8th-12th grade, year round, up to 40 hours a week
----Varsity softball 12th grade (managed 11th grade due to injury)
----JV softball 9/10th grade (MVP in 10th grade)
----Softball youth umpire 11/12th
----A political discussion club at my school 10th
----Technology honors society 11/12th
----Safe school ambassadors
----Participaated in theatre productions yearly 6-9th grade
----Managed JV field hockey while recovering from surgery 10th

Community Service:
----Host benefit annually at house with family- have raised over $10,000 for St. Jude’s
----Publicize/donate to small business owners in other countries

Awards/Academic Honors
----Most imporved student-- AP Physics 2011
----Sportsmanship award 2010
----Silver/gold honor roll
----Student of the month- french
---- a bunch of other small random things…

Yeahhhh so what do my chances at Duke EA look like???
Thanks!

Just a note, Duke offers binding ED, but not EA.

Compare yourself to last year’s ED applicants:

Just from your stats, I’d say it is a very high reach. The 3.26 GPA is a lot lower than most students accepted into the school.

GPA is a little low… What were those AP scores? Good ECs and such. Like newuser2011 said, it is a reach. Any other schools you’re looking into?

You should definitely explain your injury as it will have an impact. The problem is that it’s inhibited you for two of the important years of high school so they have little evidence on which to gauge how good of a student you are. As a result, it’s going to be very tough. It’s good that you’re going for the ED so you maximize chance.
