(Essay Subject Matter - Focused on wanting to link business with science and medicine through Wharton’s Healthcare Concentration)

Assuming my essays & recommendations were decent (in comparison with other competitive applicants - not bad, but not game-changing), what are my chances for ED Wharton?

Wharton: Low Reach-Reach

You are a very qualified applicant, but it does not mean you are guaranteed acceptance.

Math I is useless for Wharton. And if you’ve submitted 2 Math Subject Tests to the school, that’s not acceptable. Wharton requires Math II and a different subject all together. In addition, if you haven’t submitted ALL of your testing history you need to do that since that is also Penn’s policy.

Overall you’re a competitive applicant to the school but I see nothing in your ECs that indicates any interest in business. You seem more like a STEM applicant applying to Wharton…which is a bit weird. But best of luck anyways :)

penn requires all testing history.

I really appreciate the insights and opinions, everyone.

To address two of the concerns brought up:

 1. Regarding testing history, I sent ACT as my main test, with full testing history (only taken once). However, Wharton still recommended having a Math II score, so I sent that additionally, as it specifies sending in SAT I & 2 SAT IIs OR an ACT w/ Writing. This satisfies their test requirement, doesn’t it?

2) And two, I was hoping my interest in the scientific aspect of business would be more apparent to admissions (both through my leadership experience and research) as Wharton offers some interesting concentrations. However, that being said, do I still not fit any roles within those admitted into the school - even niche ones like those in Health Care Management + Policy?

Thanks again! All critiques are valuable to me.

[Bump]

Anyone else?

1.) I think regardless of which tests you took, they literally want everything. But yes if you submitted ACT, Math I and Math II (and those were the only tests you took) then you’re set!

2.) I think it would be wiser for you to apply for a Dual Degree program if you have such an interest in business + technology whether it is M&T, Vagelos or Nursing & Health Care Management. You’re definitely a strong applicant with your unique blend of ECs that fit these categories.

Whartondreamer, I’ve recently submitted my application through Common Application. However, I never saw the opportunity to specify interest in a special program. Is it too late for me to indicate a preference? What else is required of me to be considered for say, the Nursing + HCMP degree plan?

The option to be considered for a Coordinated Dual Degree program is on the Penn Supplement within the Common App. So if you’ve submitted both parts of the application, then yes it’s too late to be considered for those programs. However you’re a very strong applicant to the Wharton School alone so I wish you the best of luck :)

Whartondreamer, ah - wish I’d paid closer attention to that supplement. I appreciate the response. Best of luck to you too!

Just updating my academic profile - I sent in all my SAT Scores, as suggested by the contributors of this thread and as requested by University of Pennsylvania Admissions.

A couple questions I formed while doing this:

They may now have two copies of my score report - this isn’t detrimental to my application, is it?

Also, now that they have my full testing history, admissions can see that I have had one less than mediocre SAT test score (~1950) and one acceptable one (2300). How badly does this take away from the strength of my test scores? Will I clearly lose out to applicants who achieved strong scores after their first SAT, or does my testing history show a willingness to improve?

Please feel free to answer any or all of my inquiries. Thanks again, everyone!
