Hi, my top choice right now is Emerson because I want a theatre education program near me in Massachusetts. I know NYU is a reach, and it’s not my top choice, but the program is non-auditioned. That is a whole other issue. I’m a high school senior.
GPA: 3.0 weighted- I had some issues that brought my grades down sophomore year.
Classes: Four years of honors English
Three years of honors history (AP Gov senior year)
Two years of honors science, two years of regular science
Four years of regular math (taking Calculus this year)
Four years of chorus
Two years of acting (awards in theatre arts and public speaking)
Extra curriculars:
-Four years of drama club, where I did pretty much everything, including acting, stage managing, set design, sound design and operation, lighting design and operation, directing, fundraising, stage crew. I was a part of productions that went to semi-finals (twice), finals (once), and the New England festival (once, that’s the highest you can go). For my senior internship I will direct a one act play in the winter and a full length one in the spring. I was awarded for my efforts in technical assistance when we hosted the preliminary round.
-I worked at a intensive arts camp for five weeks for two years, assistant directing, stage managing, building and painting sets, teaching children various things in technical theatre and performing arts.
-I volunteered in an after school sports program for elementary schoolers, four days a week for about three months.
-I was instrumental in setting up a fundraising club to build a well in South Sudan.
-Private voice lessons
-Community theatre
SAT (first taken in May), I’m going to take them again along with the ACT
