Chance Me For Emory & UVa

My dream schools are UVA and Emory University. However, I’m having several crises and I just need to know if I even have a chance…

My weighted GPA is a 4.29 while unweighted is 3.88. I have over 600 hours of community service and I tutor 6 times a week. I have taken/am taking 8 APs total. My ACT composite score is a 31.

My biggest concern is this: I have been involved in speech and debate, orchestra, tennis, and 9 clubs but I am not in ANY of those senior year, except NHS and CSF.

So yeah, do you think they might see me as a quitter? Are my volunteer hours and grades sufficient enough for these colleges? hahaahah i hope i dont sound too desperate im just really iahjsgagoiah right now

It’s a Reach for both but Emory more-so. However, both schools like debaters, so if you are nationally ranked for that then your chances increase. Can you retake then ACT?

obvious questions: why did you drop pretty much all your ECs? Is your community service all in one place (ie, is that one of your ECs?) are you still doing the community service? Dk what CSF is, but is it / has it been a primary EC? for both NHS & CSF, do you have a leadership role / are they substantive ECs?

and perhaps a less obvious one, besides the fact that you want to go there, what do you bring to them - ie, why are you a good addition to their campus community? If I was an AO reading hundreds of apps, what would make me say “ooohhhh, here’s a good one!” when I got to yours?

Not sure if those are rhetorical questions but I’ll just answer them:
I dropped Speech/Debate because it was way too time consuming and it wasn’t something I enjoyed doing, and the captain was extremely rigorous. I quit orchestra because the teacher doesn’t even know how to play a string instrument, and the class was a waste of time (we would sit there and do homework from other classes). I quit tennis because of time. Because the girl I tutor asks me to stay for 2-3 hours a day, 4 days a week, and because she lives far, I would get home at around 7:30-8:00 and felt stressed having to balance it all. For CSF (California Scholarship Foundation) and NHS, they aren’t really ECs but rather clubs and a leadership role I have because of my academics.
(Oh, and yeah I still do community service–about 3 hours a week)

And your question–that’s really good. I’ll need to think that through. Thank you so much.

I’m not nationally ranked heh oh well. And I think I could take the November ACT but I’m not sure if that one is too late…?

Are you a resident of Virginia ? If so, have you considered the college of William & Mary ?

No I’m a Californian. William & Mary seems really nice, but I’m only allowed to apply to 3 out-of-state schools and I already have chosen them…
