Chance me for exeter

Not yet, but I would appreciate some resources I could use to study for it.

Trounced PEA on “EA Day”? Are you kidding?

Ok well then I feel 100% better. I thought you were burning the ships at the shore for Exeter.

On that note, and I’m not trying to get into you family’s pocket, but I can’t stress enough the value of going to Open Houses, tours and interviews in person at these places if at all possible (I realize this is could be costly). You simply cannot get a true sense of these places off the internet, videos or Zoom.

Examples: We were very interested in Groton based on our research. We went to an Open House, and on the way home, my daughter was like “No way I’m applying there.”

We went to Exeter’s Open House and later toured and interviewed there. We researched and had a lot of anecdotal information from people who knew the place and were blown away. They did the best job on those events by far. The whole admissions process was terrific. Totally changed my impression of the place.

We went to Andover’s events and were kinda disappointed, to be honest. Hammered the academic rigor thing to the point where it almost seemed like they were trying to scare people away. Their Revisit Day, which focused less on the academics and more on the amazing experience with your amazing peers and, you know, Andover-ness, lapped the field, however. They clearly are more focused on the closing of the kids they want than selling themselves. And based on their yield, it works.

What I’m saying is, boarding school is about the experience, and you can’t replicate the vibe unless you’re on campus. Even the friends you know will seem different when you see them in that environment with their peers. It’s super-informative. And if at all possible, schedule it around the Andover-Exeter weekend. There’s nothing like it.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much and I am sorry I didn’t indicate that before that I am applying to other schools, and I will try to go to some of the tours that happen in person if I can but like I said I’m all the way in Texas and those schools are pretty far from me so I may not be able and I agree that you can’t get the full experience from just attending virtual events.

?? if im not mistaken we won fall and winter along with lacrosse

Not sure about “winning” but the football team lost 42-21. It was a hideous beating.

:man_shrugging: footballs not our strong suit
 we know this

Used to be.

true though. Did I also add I will need partial aid?? And If I didn’t what do you think my chances are after knowing this information?

Exeter is need-blind. Your FA stayed doesn’t impact admissions chances.

You have &1.3 billion reasons not to worry about it. Makes no difference.

Alright so for now I should just focus on the applications and doing my best.

Hello, I just wanted to ask when you think it would be the best time to ask for teacher recs knowing I started school on the 13th of august.

I am applying for lawrenceville and was wondering if you could chance me! And to be honest I think that you application is amazing and in my opinion (I am very not educated) I think they would be lucky to have you!

Thank you so much, I would be thrilled to chance you!

I wrote a (overly) long post about the SSAT books I used with my kids on the prep school admissions forum (“What are the best study guides for the upper level SSAT?”). Some other people added some great insights too. Hopefully that’s helpful but please add any insights that you pick up along the way. What are the best study guides for the Upper Level SSAT?

hello, sorry I have not been active on the forums because of school but now that I’ve gotten the time too I wanted to ask questions about the TSAO event, I have my interview scheduled there and I just wanted to clarify and ask. How should I act? What should I wear (formal, semi-formal etc), how do I portray myself without bragging, how to answer some of the questions like “why Exeter" etc, how do I show interest without absolutely being a prick on the road at the interview, and around what time should I get there assuming the interview is at 11 am. For the event what should I expect? How long is the event usually? and how can I stand out? I’m sorry for writing this overly long post but I just wanted to know some things to expect before the event and interview

Ok, so I was just at one! I will say i’m no expert but have a little experience and will be going to another one too! I would say dress business casual. (Dress like a debate tournament). Additionally the point is to sell yourself. Brag, but in the most humble way possible. Make sure to have a firm handshake, I received many compliments about it! In regards to how long the event is, Mine went from 1:30 to 4:40ish but it tends to run over if many people have questions.

In terms of what to expect: Are you going to the general one or the Diverse round table one?

In regards to the question about ‘Why Exeter’ : Why do you like Exeter, what makes you feel so strongly about the school. DM me if you want a specific question answered but thats the main jist.

What do you mean by diverse table or general?

Look on the website or schedule and it will say Round table like kind of DEI and the in general one has a lot more kids than the Diverse one!
