Schools
(List of colleges by your initial chance estimate; designate if applying ED/EA/RD; if unsure, leave them unclassified)

If a scholarship is necessary for affordability, indicate that you are aiming for a scholarship and use the scholarship chance to estimate it into the appropriate group below; also, for colleges that admit by major or division, consider that in chance estimate.

  • Assured (100% chance of admission and affordability): GGC
  • Extremely Likely:
  • Likely: Ga State, Agnes Scott
  • Toss-up: UGA
  • Lower Probability:
  • Low Probability:Ga Tech

Definitely not a deal breaker, but NHS isn’t offered to 9th graders. Double check the resume.

Your chance classifications are probably accurate, but have you calculated your UGA GPA? That will help with chancing that specific school.

A few questions:
What are your career goals with a biology degree?
What is your SAT breakdown?
Are you trying to stay close to Atlanta? Or will anywhere in Georgia work?

Our School allowed us to join, but not as officers.

  1. Something in Medicine
  2. 700 English, 660 Math
  3. Close to or NE of Atlanta is a must

Thanks. What is your UGA GPA? (It’s an old article but still accurate and still linked on the admissions blog.)

How to calculate UGA GPA

Edit: What is your senior year coursework?

5.5
Senior Year coursework is decided right before the school year, and the schedule isn’t constant. But most likely, it would be AP ES, AP Precalc/Stats, an AP of my choice, and another year of Arabic

You haven’t calculated the UGA GPA correctly. It couldn’t be that high. Are you starting with your unweighted GPA and then weighting per the UGA formula?

Since you listed Agnes Scott, another Atlanta LAC with likely admission is Oglethorpe. I assume you’ve checked these privates for affordability. I’m a big fan of LACs for prehealth due to the smaller classes and access to professors/research, but that’s just my personal preference. That can be found at large universities too but may take a bit more effort.

UGA may be leaning toward lower probability but you have a reasonable chance.

GaTech does not seem a good fit for your academic stats and career goals. Anyone pursuing a career in medicine (PA, NP, MD/DO, etc) needs a high college GPA. That would be difficult at Tech. I’m also concerned about your SAT math and highest HS math level. So even in the slim possibility of acceptance, I don’t believe it would be a good fit.

Edit: Perhaps after a successful year at GCC if you do well in the required coursework for transfers you’d be accepted, but I hesitate recommending GaTech to anyone needing a high GPA for competitive grad school admissions. Just something to keep in mind as you consider your post-grad options. A biology degree on its own doesn’t typically lead to high paying jobs so most likely you’ll consider some sort of additional schooling (grad program or a medical program). So choose a school where you can be happy and academically successful.

You will have solid options with your list!!

If you end up at an Atlanta school, check out the cross registration at the ARCHE colleges.

There are so many careers in the health field. Here’s a list that may help you consider the many options available to you.

Best of luck!

You can learn a lot by reading the UGA Admissions Blog. David Graves provides detailed and thoughtful advice that can be applied to application to any college.

Perhaps you’ll find it helpful.

You want premed in GaTech?
I would strongly recommend not doing it.
GaTech is very much Engineering school (I know there is strong Business school etc). However, GaTech has top of the top students. For premed you need absolutely top GPA. I would not go to GaTech for premed to protect GPA.

I think Georgia State maybe best fit in your situation. And it will not be easy to keep high GPA there too.

GATech is test required for this application cycle, and I’d say that your SAT is not too competitive given your context… The 50% percentile is 1440 for the 2023/2024 cycle.

I would consider trying again in the October test, or even giving ACT a try for the September test date.
