What would be hellish in your hometown or Tennessee that is different from where Georgia Tech is? If you could describe that, perhaps other posters can make suggestions for other schools that may be more suitable in case you do not get into Georgia Tech.
I’ve lived in the same city, gone to the same school, and even lived in the same house for almost 2 decades, I desperately need a change of scenery. I have already been to Atlanta at least 10-15 times and it is something that I would much prefer over any TN city.
So, Georgia Tech has a 10% acceptance rate for out of state applicants. Not impossible, but you’ll have to improve your ACT score.
That’s your first choice school. Like everyone else applying to college, you’ll have to come up with 2nd, 3rd, 4th . . . choices. So, if not GT & Atlanta, where to next? Since cost does not seem to be an issue (?), you have more options than most.
