Chance Me for Harvard

Alright, my stats/descriptions:

93.05 GPA on a 100 scale, unweighted, in a school known for grade deflation (highest ever GPA was a 95).

7 APs by end of senior year; 5s on English Comp, Latin Vergil, and US History, taking Physics B, Calc BC, Stats, and Euro currently.

2 Summers At Harvard SSP; took 2 classes per summer, got an A and and A- each summer.

President of 2 A Cappella groups, founder of another a cappella group while at Harvard, Co-Chair of theatre tech for 2 years, Class President for 2 years, 2 lead roles in musicals, Cum Laude Society, Improv, school tour guide.

Musically, study conducting, voice, and choral music.

Volunteer work with The Help Kenya Project; led project to build World’s Tallest Can Pyramid to benefit Help Kenya.

Racially, 1/2 Cuban 1/2 Jewish-American.

My issue is that I’m afraid Harvard just, for some reason, won’t pick me… but I wonder if the sort of things I’ve done will help?

Thanks!

Forgot:

2290 SAT/ 1510 out of 1600.
35 ACT.

Clearly you are qualified academically to attend & do well at any Ivy, however, noone can assess your chances for admission to a university that admits less than 10% of approximately 30,000 well qualified applicants.
My son also attended two summers at SSP & also earned two “As” & two “A-s”, and two professors encouraged him to apply to Harvard by offering to write recommendations for him.
To me, my son & at least one other CC poster, Harvard & Northwestern University are similiar in many respects-- at least, more similiar than Harvard & any other Ivy. My point is that there are other options besides Harvard that offer a similiar experience & setting.
Besides the name & the prestige, what attracts you to Harvard University (and I do understand the attraction).
What other schools are you considering & what do you want to study? Which SSP classes did you take? Did you take any of the college tours while at SSP?

I’m attracted to Harvard because of the programs and the campus. I really fell for the place after having lived there for two summers, and their math program is pretty incredible. The faculty is also really great, and the general atmosphere and student population of the school is exactly what I want. While I’m sure many other schools have what I want (and I’ve applied to other schools) I’m just kind of in love with the place.

I took Micro and Macro (separately) one summer at SSP, and the next I took “Intro to Proof: Spaces, Mapping, and Mathematical Reasoning” and “Global Energy and Environmental Politics”. I didn’t do a tour because I know the campus pretty well and I focused more on hearing Harvard College students’ experiences.

If you didn’t catch that, I want to do math or applied math, and I’ve already gotten into Caltech, so I’m kind of set…just waiting to see what some other places have to say. I guess you’re right, though, about the gap between qualification and acceptance, and the random factor.

Thanks!

You look good but wat can anyone say about reaches for Harvard…with a 7% acceptance rate, consider urself in a line of 14 smart, talented, mostly qualified (for Harvard) kids. Only one of you will get accepted…good luck though :)

If your school is well-known to prestigious colleges (as a lot of rigorous ones are), that coupled with your race gives you a much better chance than most.
