Chance me for Lville

Hi. I’m a 10th grader applying for The Lawrenceville School for 11th grade (fourth form) as a day student. I attend a smaller private school in the area, but want to swap to be able to have more resources and opportunities. I’m nervous because people are saying that its nearly impossible to get into Lville going into 11th or 12th. I don’t want to repeat a year though.**

The reason why I have a B is due to my teacher not receiving assignments that I submitted on time, which she didn’t count when she did receive it. I complained to the Principal but she said she couldn’t do anything about it.

I also plan on starting my training to become an EMT in January. I’m applying for FA, although I’m not sure I will receive much. From what I’ve seen, a 1300 on the PSAT is around the average for what students get in lville. I was accepted into Peddie last year (going into 10th), but my parents didn’t think it was a good fit for me.

You look like a very competitive candidate, but 11th grade is a difficult entry year. What other schools are you considering? Why didn’t you think that Peddie was a good fit? Did you apply to Lawrenceville previously?

I agree that you look competitive, and that 11th is a tough year for admissions. It’shardto say what the decision will be.

It appears that you are knocking it out of the park where you are now. What does L’ville offer that your current school does not? Is there something specific you can point to that you would be bringing to the community that they need? (Always an easy question for athletic recruits – tougher for others.)

Also curious why Peddie wasn’t a good fit. With their maker space and your talent and interest in that, it looks like it could have been a great match.

It’s not “nearly impossible” with your background and accomplishments if you pull a good folder together. If you get in, the question you gotta ask, as others have hinted, is should you?

You’re doing well at a place that knows you well and will (presumably) support you as you try to go to the next level. If you go to Lawrenceville, you’d be entering in the hardest year with no room for error or forgiveness for transition. The kids in your class will be sharpened by experience and all be laser focused to deliver academically for Junior year because they know the stakes. You know the stakes, but don’t know the card game. Or the table.

Seems unnecessarily risky if you don’t want to reclass, but that’s what I say to everyone in this scenario. Good luck in any case.

Great expression.

Lville 11th grade is tough even for those that know the card game.

Thanks for all the replies - I’m still going to apply to see if I get in, but I might try to make the most of the situation I have now rather than throw myself in the deep end of things here.
