Chance me for McCombs Business [TX resident, 3.79 UW, top 20% rank, 31 ACT]

This is for McCombs btw, looking to pursue entrepreneurship, and business management.

Demographics:

Spanish/Hispanic, Family income over 350k, live in State, go to a very competitive high-school, and 1 parent was an Alumni from McCombs.

ACT: 31 choose to eventually submit, yet I still think this may be a deal breaker for business in my opinion.

Class: Non-Auto, for specifics I am top 20% about 800 students in the class.

GPA: 3.79/4 Unweighted

AP’s:

APHUG

AP Chem

AP World History

AP Span 4

AP Micro

AP GOV

AP US History

AP English 3

AP English 4

ECs:

  1. Eagle Scout. Also took many leadership positions such as Senior Patrol Leader, and Senior Assistant Patrol Leader.

  2. Created a business from scratch and competed with 32 other business to reach top 5 of development process. Worked with investors and made the business official. Currently working on a government contract that could make the company millions. Involves transporting healthy transparent caffeine gummies to soldiers, and drone operators across seas.

  3. Took an extra class called “Incubator”, which taught me the ways of entrepreneurship, and business. Incubator is a renowned high school class in my area that only a select few people move onto the next year of the class which is called accelerator, and my business was one of those few. I was also able to connect with extra important vendors, and investors to further spread my branding, and knowledge into the world of business.

  4. Made a music company that works with relatively famous artists. Freelanced and collaborated in the management of making songs, and processing album publishing.

  5. E-Sports club game/Manager. Took the Varsity Team to playoffs of the HSEL (Nation High School Esports League) Organization. Reached semifinals over the other 2000+ teams. Was team captain and manager of the varsity team also.

  6. Was a lead cashier manager at my local Home Depot, managed cashier teams, and set times for other people to work.

  7. Was a soccer referee manager, had to manage all the other refs games, confirm scores, and ref games on my own also.

I would say my essays are pretty good. If I had to rank them without bias it would probably be around the 7-9 out of 10 mark.

I have 2 letters of Rec, one from my chemistry teacher who is the sponsor of my E-Sports program in school. The other from my business program leader, both of whom I have known and worked together with for several years, since I know McCombs like letters of Rec from people we have personally worked with, and know how we work as a team.

And that’s it really, I thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you have a great rest of your day!

Class rank is very important at McCombs. But hopefully you applied to SMU and or TCU as well.

I think you will have a good chance. What people don’t know is how much an Eagle Scout factors into a college admissions

It’s not about MCCombs. It a lot will you get into UT. You are between 6-20% so unlikely for UT I think but highly unlikely for business. Just my opinion. You’ll find out.

Lots of great large b schools out there and you have financial means.

You’re an entrepreneur. Have you looked at Babson ?

Good luck.

Yeah I kinda wish I didn’t go to such a competitive school cause I have people I know with 3.9-3.95 unweighted who barely crack inside the top 12%. And to simplify down, I am under the top 20%, but not inside the top 15%

So what’s plan B.

Did you apply to Mays or Houston or Tech or Arkansas or other OOS schools?

Got into Mays. Probably my next best option but McCombs is really my dream school or go to.

Define best?

Well it’s great you have a wonderful landing place.

What is it about McCombs?

Given your entrepreneurial background - have you ever researched Babson? It’s tops for entrepreneurship - has been forever.

The important thing is - you have a plan - Door #1 if it opens and if not you have #2 ready to go!!

Mays is a fine school.

Congrats.

Admissions is unlikely, but your odds are not 0%. I’ve worked with kids not in the top 6% that have gotten into UT and McCombs and it surprised me every time. Sub-top 6 is a black box, luck of the draw really. But you have a good app, so it’s not impossible. Good luck!

Unlikely to even get into UT, slim-to-none chance for McConbs. Rank and 31 ACT just isn’t there.

Mays is FANTASTIC! So many amazing opportunities, programs, trips, etc. Sign up for NSC and don’t look back!
