Schools

  • Assured (100% chance of admission and affordability): GGC
  • Extremely Likely: Augusta
  • Likely:Oglethorpe
  • Toss-up: GA State, Agnes Scott
  • Lower Probability: UGA, Mercer
  • Low Probability: Emory

So only in state schools?

It’s an odd set of schools - varying sizes.

I’d say Ogelthorpe is extremely likely and Mercer is likely.

Good luck.

Agnes Scott and Mercer are great matches/likely, Oglethorpe is a safety.
Are they affordable (ie., have you run the NPC with your parents?)

If you’re willing to venture out of state, look into/run the NPC on Sewanee, Eckerd, Elon.

For UGA and Emory, I would NOT apply for Biology.
You should apply to Emory-Oxford and pick Anthropology&HumanBiology for a major, less competitive than basic Biology and just as interesting if not more so. This would greatly increase your odds.
For UGA, see if any of the majors below would be of interest - your odds would be much greater simply because many applicants don’t know they exist.

I want to do Prehealth, so I want my classes to line up with the requirements

They do.
The majors I listed line up with the pre-med pre-reqs, which aren’t that onerous anyway: 2 courses in English* (written expression, professional or interpersonal communication…), General Biology 1&2 with lab*, General Chemistry 1&2 w/lab, Organic Chemistry 1&2 w/lab, Biochemistry, Sociology*, Psychology*, a diversity-focused class*, a foreign language* (such as Spanish for Health Professions), calculus 1*, biostatistics or statistics*, Physics1&2, possibly Anatomy/Physiology.
(*= Would overlap with typical gen Ed requirements regardless of major).
Any major that includes a lot of chemistry works but if 2/3 admitted med school students majored in something like Bio, Chem, Biochem, Math, Physics, Bioinformatics, or other sciences, about a third majored in arts/humanities/social sciences and still got As in their pre-reqs.

Pre Health students all need a plan B since so few make it to med (MD DO) school, so the major is often chosen to help with that pivot.
