I would also like to mention that I had excellent rec letters from my PI and my profs

I have to ask, how did you not get into a better school than UT-Austin initially? Your schedule has been absolutely insane, and that’s coming from a former Carnegie Mellon engineering student.

I can assure that your 4.0 coursework alone puts you in the top 1% of engineering students, let alone research/ec’s.

Thank you! The reason I didn’t get into a better school was because I was an extremely bad/lazy student in high school. I graduated with around a 3.1 GPA and was ranked around the top (~23%) of my class. Honestly, I was so thankful I even got into UT Austin considering that it uses the top 8% rule. I changed my life around and dedicated myself to my education after graduating hs and this is where I am at 3 semesters later. I always wanted to go to MIT and I had pretty good ECs in high school…just not the best GPA :(

That’s awesome! I like the Chic-Fil-A.

I’m applying to the same schools, and hopefully we meet some day!

You’re finished with your 3.1 high school GPA to put it bluntly. More emphasis is given on that than your first semester college grades.

These places have 3-4% transfer acceptance rates with the exception of MIT. You need to be strong all around.

You should apply as a junior, you would be a lot stronger

He is applying as a junior…

i don’t think they will really care about your high school gpa … your sat maybe but your university grades are stellar so hopefully you get in ! =]

They won’t really care about SAT either, only college which is te area he’s phenomenal in.

Am I reading correctly that you take 10 classes per semester? What’s up with that? That’s not even allowed at my university.

The maximum number of classes one can take at our university in a single semester is 15. I really I hope I can get into MIT; I worked so hard just to get to this stage :(

MIT is the only one you have a real chance at getting into IMHO. Duke, for instance, is not as good as MIT but it’s transfer acceptance rate is in the range of 2%!

Are your classes structured differently or something? It wouldn’t be physically possible to take 10 classes where I go haha.
Edit: It’s because they count your labs as classes; I wasn’t looking. They don’t do that here for some bizarre reason.

Still, looks like a tough schedule!

Thank you! Honestly, UT Austin is a great school. If I don’t get into any of those schools mentioned above^… then I rather stay here and finish my degree and apply to the top schools for graduate school. Can anyone else comment their opinion?

Anyone else’s opinion is greatly appreciated.

Really a crapshoot for everyone. Wait until May.

You have a good chance at columbia maybe, but the others have no true rhyme or reason in accepting. Also, i think you’re huge workload might not be helpign your chances considering you would go in with a Ton of credits from another university. ionno though. good luck
