GPA, Rank, and Test Scores

  • Unweighted HS GPA: (calculate it yourself if your high school does not calculate it) Probably like 3.8 or something I didn’t want to calculate it
  • Weighted HS GPA: (must specify weighting system; note that weighted GPA from the high school is usually not informative, unless aligned with the recalculation used by a college of interest, such as CA, FL, SC public universities) 4.122 as of junior year

  • Class Rank: 23/120
  • ACT/SAT Scores: 35 ACT

All years continued senior year. Captain of Varsity Academic team(4 year participant), Member of ACES(WYSE) team(have placed 5th and 3rd at a state level for Comp Sci and Chemistry respectively, always got first or second in lower divisions)(3 years), Jazz Band(Pianist 2 years), Theater lights manager- would create and run light cues for theatrical productions for school(3 years), did a few volunteer sessions but nothing I’ve been able to stick to.

Essays/LORs/Other
(Optionally, guess how strong these are and include any other relevant information or circumstances.)

Schools
(List of colleges by your initial chance estimate; designate if applying ED/EA/RD; if unsure, leave them unclassified)

If a scholarship is necessary for affordability, indicate that you are aiming for a scholarship and use the scholarship chance to estimate it into the appropriate group below; also, for colleges that admit by major or division, consider that in chance estimate.

  • Assured (100% chance of admission and affordability): Michigan Technological University - Will go to MTU for a competition for Leading Scholar in hopes to get full tuition, only then will I consider it.
  • Extremely Likely:
  • Likely: UIUC - Instate tuition and I should fit the bill for what they want
  • Toss-up: UC Berkeley
  • Lower Probability:
  • Low Probability: MIT, Northwestern

If you won’t do something so simple, my guess is you won’t show well in essays or LOR’s.

You are asking for a chance me and won’t do a three minute exercise. These privates know how to find the creme de la creme.

UIUC certainly reasonable, moreso for Chem than CS. UCB Unlikely. Not a toss up would be my guess but provide the 3 UC GPAs which you’ll need to calculate (effort) and you’ll get a targeted answer.

Did you apply for CS or Chem at UIUC?

Are you looking for more schools to apply to in the RD round, or are you just looking for reassurance that you’ll be admitted to one of the schools you already applied to?

If you applied EA for MIT, there’s no need to chance you for that one, since the decision will be released in a week

What were your grades in math and science classes? How strong are you in math compared to other students in your high school?

Do you have any budget restrictions at all? Are your parents fine with being full pay at MIT or Northwestern or UC Berkeley out of state? If not, have you run the NPC for MIT and Northwestern?

FWIW, my son’s mentor is world class in their niche field of engineering and he went to Michigan Tech. It’s about you, your horsepower, your curiosity and your drive more than it is about the school.

Not a toss up, especially if you applied CS. This is in the reach category. And, if you do get in, can you afford it? It will be upwards of $80K/yr.

Your only assured college is not actually assured, is it? As you say you would only consider it if you get a certain scholarship.

So what is your likely? UIUC? Did you apply CS or Chem?

I’m concerned your list is a bit reach-y. Do you have one sure thing that you’d be happy to attend? Or are you asking for suggestions for that?
