Chance me for MITES

Rather than being chanced for a college. Could you please chance me for the MITES Summer program? Also, how much of a boost to my application will MITES give me?

Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if it is worth it for me to apply to MITES Summer? I know its very selective and don’t want to waste my teachers time asking for 3 rec letters if I do not have a good shot at being admitted. So heres my relevant stats and ECs. If not then which other summer programs should I apply to?

Stats and Background:
Current Junior
Hispanic (I think this is important for MITES but not sure?)
4.0 UW, 4.73 W GPA
1550 SAT (800 math, 750 ebrw)
AP classes: AP Calc BC (5), AP Spanish (4), AP Biology, AP Computer Science Principles, AP US History, AP English Language, AP Statistics
Dual Enrollment: Multivariable Calculus III (A-), World History since 1650 (A), Differential Equations (no grade yet)

and you can only list 4 ECs (+ summer camps and volunteering) and 4 awards

Extracurriculars:

  1. Research in Modeling Markov Chains with R with a CSULB professor
  2. Co-founded a math tutoring business; hired 5 other tutors; 15+ clients; $4,000+ in profits; personally tutored 80+ hours
  3. President of my schools math team and math club
  4. Attended a selective math summer program (15% acceptance rate)
  5. Black Belt in competitive karate for 10+ years
  6. Online volunteer math tutor

Awards:

  1. AIME Qualifier (102 on AMC12)
  2. National Honors Society
  3. Principals Honor Roll
  4. top 3 at local math competition

And for my reccomendations

  1. Math teacher (10/10)
  2. Councelor (9/10)
  3. Spanish teacher (6/10)

Thank you!

Woah hi there fellow MITES applicant!! Did you apply for only MITES Summer (Opted out of semester) or just indicated a preference for MITES Summer? Overall your application is super impressive! I can’t give much ‘chancing’ but I certainly hope you get in!

That is a really good application, I think depending on your essays and recs you should definitely get in (all of your stats are good). Also, your race/income and status as a first-gen college student is all considered for MITES. You should not really worry too much about this though, because as long as you meet one of the “under-represented” criteria (like being Hispanic) you are fine. Best of luck!!

P.S. - I applied to, and I hope I see you there!
