I am applying as an engineering major, but until the beginning of junior year I though I wanted to do pre-med, so I feel like my application is more geared toward that, and I’m not sure if admissions will be concerned. Ik its going to be hard to get into the top ones, but from my research (school sites, Niche, current students, class of 2018 seniors at my school) I’ve been getting conflicting information. I visited all of my schools, and I am trying to get an interview at every school that offers one. I’m hoping being hispanic (PR) will help, but idk how much of a difference this will make, especially with some schools trying to balance the M/F ratio in STEM. Also the lack of a physics subject test and low GPA might hurt me.
Here are my qualifications and academic info:
Testing:
SAT: 790 Math, 760 EBRW
Subject Tests:
Bio (M): 800
Math 2: 790
US History: 800
My only AP so far is Calc AB (5), but my current classes will easily prepare me for BC and Physics C (M).
GPA: 3.8 uw (all classes at least honors level)
2 Rec letters (junior year physics and math)
Extracurriculars:
T/F: Shot put, throwing captain (practice 4 days per week, meets every weekend from Dec-May).
Band (student-run)
Service: 2.5 hours per week teaching a supplemental reading program for 3rd-5th grade at my local public school.
Work/Internships:
Retail job for 3 months in 2018 (stock, order and shipment processing, display shelves)
Internship at local hospital in summer 2017 (observing in each department, assisting when applicable, listening to lectures, etc.)
CIT in summer 2015
I would appreciate any thoughts. My top 4 are all good choices for me, so if I get into at least one of them that would be great. Thanks for reading
