Chance me for northwestern!!!

Im applying as an international student from Saudi Arabia, I go to a very known competitive private school and I take the IB diploma program

I am the only one in my grade with 4 Higher Level IB courses and 2 Standard Level, so toughest program offered at my school (IB English A2 HL, Math HL, Economics HL, Business and Management HL, Bio SL, Arabic A1 SL)

My predicted IB score: 42/42 (with bonus points, 45)

GPA: 4.1 (unweighted)
Rank: 1st out of 75 students (But i think my school kept me as top 2% cause they dont rank)

SAT I/II:
CR: 510 (bad, i know)
Math: 800
CW: 660
total SAT reasoning: 1970
Math 1: 740
Math 2: 730
Bio M: 580
TOEFL iBT: 107 out of 120
IELTS: 8 out of 9

Teacher Evaluations: one english, one math (both are excellent recommendations, teachers shared them with me)

Common App Essay: Strong (many people read it and got a lot of good praise from it)
I can send it to you to read it if you want

Extracurriculars: MANY! MUN for three years, Stock Investment challenge, Junior Achievement Banks in Action, Habitat for Humanity, Student Government (secretary in junior year, president in senior year), captain of soccer team, basketball team, track and field, many high school honor awards, 3 work experience (one in Accounting dept, one in an insurance company and one in construction company, all experiences lasted for about 1-2 months max)
Past Two Summers: Global Young Leaders Conference and Harvard Summer School (received 8 undergraduate credits precalculus B+, psychology B)

interview: still not done, soon though!

i also applied to Yale, Brown, Columbia, Princeton, Stanford, University of Chicago, University of Penn, Harvard

please chance me!!! Please be honest!

thank you

Good chance, I think you’re poor CR will be outweighed by other aspects of your application. However, what the hell happened if you don’t mind my asking?

haha I have no idea!!! the first time i did it i got a 500 and I did a couple of practice ones and i got above 600, i guess its the messed up sat conditions that makes me distracted and unfocused when I read a passage… and english is my second language as well so I dont have a strong vocabulary

Do you have the chance to take the ACT?

Its not offered in my country, but i heard that i could schedule for a private session to take the test, is it easier than the SATs? do i need to prepare for it or just take the test?

It is easier for some, harder for others. Judging by your low score, however, I think you would suceed since the score seems out of place with the rest of your application.

To be honest, and I really don’t mean to be mean here, you wont get into any of the places you applied.

KDutch,

Majman’s opinion is without base and should not be taken into consideration. I (as an Indian-American…an over represented minority) got into Northwestern with a lower SAT score with a 690 SAT II, similar rank, and similar GPA. Although all of the schools that you are applying to are extremely difficult to gain acceptance to (especially as an international applicant) and therefore it is hard to determine your chances, I think you have a strong and competitive application. I would look into some lesser-known colleges, however, for back-up choices. NU isn’t as number-crazy as many of the other schools. If your essay is as strong as you say it is, you should have a great chance.

hey ep1th3t, are u taking a gap year? (Northwestern '14, not '13?)

all are big reaches, sorry.

You have that cool “Saudi Arabian” factor. Your scores are competitive, except for your obviously ouch of a score (Critical Reading)…

Overall, you have a great shot at NU. U.Chicago is really big on essays and your writing scores don’t prove too much about your writing ability. The other schools are as unpredictable as the underwear I’ll be wearing tomorrow but you have as good a chance as any, I suppose. Try to up those writing and reading scores maybe?

Vicky: I’m enrolled in the 5-year double degree program between Weinburg and Bienen.

This is a pretty unrelated question, but how can you have a 4.1 unweighted GPA? Just curious…To answer your real question though, I think you have a good shot at some of those schools (NU and UChicago in particular, in my opinion). You have applied to a lot of reach schools…but hey, you might as well try, right? Your credentials are very good.
