Chance me for NYU, BC, UNC, and more!

This is my first post on here and it would be good to get some feedback.

I’m just going to say it; I know a lot of these schools are a stretch for me, and I really appreciate honest feedback.

White, Male from Texas

GPA (Weighted): 3.76
GPA (UW): 3.5 (approx.)
Rank: Top 30%
ACT: 30
SAT: 1910

AP Language:4
AP US History:4
AP Psychology: 5

-My essay for the common app was entered in a few contests which my teacher recommended me for; so I think it is safe to say it is pretty good

-My schedule this year consists of 5 AP courses, and I will have four A’s and 1 B for my mid-year reports in these classes

-I have taken PreAP and AP Courses throughout high school, almost all, and my GPA is low as a result of 2 C’s and a couple B’s on my transcript in these advanced classes.

-My high school is highly competitive (everyone says this…but really), to be in top 10% at my school you need a 4.3

-Eagle Scout
-Numerous Competition Awards in FBLA
-4 Years in Marching Band; 4 Years in Theatre
-Community Service Club- 200+ hours since 9th Grade
-AP Scholar Award

I have applied to NYU, Boston College, Wake Forest, University of North Carolina, University of Texas, Tulane, and Syracuse. Feedback on any of these schools would be appreciated.

And does anyone think sending my AP Scores to these colleges would help? I have sent them to Boston College and NYU, but I am not sure if I want to send more since it is $15 per report.

well, unfortunately I’m only familiar with NYU, Tulane and Syracuse. I’d say NYU and Syracuse are low reaches and Tulane is an in. I don’t think (from what I’ve gathered anyway) that Tulane is very selective, so you can relax about that one.

UNC is difficult for out of state students. We both know (I’m from TX too) that UT’s dumb top 10% rule would disqualify you (even though you seem like a pretty strong applicant). NYU/Syracuse might be reaches, but I’m not too familiar with BC and Wake Forest. Tulane would most likely take you. Your essay is really good, so it may swing you at a couple of schools. Good luck!

And yet lyc0r1s thinks Syracuse is a low reach. Interesting what people will say without doing any research and what the perceptions are.

Syracuse SATs (middle 50%):

CR 520-620
Math 550-650
W 530-630

ACT: 23-28

% Admitted: 52.5%

Tulane SAT’s:

CR 630-720
Math 620-700
W 640-720

ACT: 29-32

% Admitted: 26.3%

Those are not even close. Apparently lyc0r1s, you are not familiar with Tulane at all.

I only know syracuse and NYU both low reaches :D

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/831914-chances-cooper-union-i-am-urm-please-help-anxious-senior-will-chance-back.html

He has an ACT of 30 and a GPA (UW) of 3.5. How in the world is Syracuse a low reach? Look at the averages for Syracuse. It is a safety for him.

You don’t need to pay to send your AP reports to colleges. You just self-report them on the Common Application or on a section of the school application. I really hope you haven’t sent them yet…that’s $30 down the drain. :(

The schools must require something official at some point. They would never give credit for self-reported scores, surely.

^ No. College Board gives you one free score report, which you send to the college you will attend after you take your final AP exams at the end of your senior year. It isn’t like the SAT or ACT where you have to send official copies to schools when you’re applying to them.

Ah yes. That makes more sense, the school you are attending does need the official report. That’s what I meant.

The only school I’m familiar with is NYU, I think you have a good shot. I know someone who got in last year with similar GPA but he got a 31 on his ACT…HOPE THIS HELPS!!

chance me?
