Does Oberlin make visits to your school? If so then they are well aware of the lack of grade inflation at your school and won’t hold it against you.
Your ECs are weak for a boarding school kid.
But males and African Americans are both in demand at Onerlin (and many other places) so I think your chances are strong. I’d rate it as a match for you, but not a safety.
@troyus They do not visit my school. Although my school is the most challenging high school in the state, it is not ranked and so most colleges will not know about the lack of grade inflation and my low GPA will be held against me.
Your GPA is average and your ACT is in the top 25%. The school has a 30% admit rate so you have a good shot. You need options of course. How many students from your high school might apply there? Do many students from South Carolina apply to and attend Oberlin?
@BatesParents2019 I don’t think anymore than a 2 or 3 from my high school will apply. I also don’t believe that many students from South Carolina apply to and attend Oberlin. Would that have much of an impact on my chances?
Yes it does. It would be great if not too many attend from South Carolina and it would be great if few from your high school apply. It’s best not having to compete with classmates if you are borderline. If the others are stronger even if you are solid, they will get in.
Just common sense. If they are weaker then don’t worry so much.
