<p>Hi, so you may remember my stats because I’ve posted once or twice before. However, my stats are updated and hopefully this will be my last chance thread ever!</p>
<p>As the title indicates, I would appreciate chances for:
University of Pennsylvania ED (International Relations)
UCLA (International Development)
UC Berkeley (Peace and Conflict Studies)</p>
<p>Objective:
-SAT I: 2270 superscored, 2190 highest
-SAT II: 780 Math II, 700 USH, 780 Chinese
-Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.82, straight As except Junior year: C/B in AP Physics and B/B in APUSH and Precalc H
-Weighted GPA: 4.62
-APs: Psych 4, APUSH 4, Physics 2, Chinese 5
-Senior Year Course Load: Gov/Econ, Statistics, Calc AB, Biology, English Lit [all of these are APs], MUN, Mock Trial, online International Business course
-Awards: Honor Roll, CSF, AP Scholar, ~15 awards in Model UN, Branch Honors Recital for piano for 3 years in a row, honor societies</p>
<p>Subjective:

Model UN: 15 awards including 2 Gavels, attended dozens of conferences, part of the middle school outreach program, chaired 2 committees, one of the top delegates
MUN summer program at top tier school, created a media campaign for an NGO
Intern for a well-known MUN company: I publish articles, recap conferences, etc.
Mock Trial: Secretary, clerk sophomore year and a prosecution attorney junior year, head attorney senior year
Key Club: Director of Events, community service club
Link Crew: mentored a group of assigned freshmen and helped at school events. Couldn’t do it this year b/c of scheduling conflicts.
FBLA: Secretary, competing in global business
National Chinese Honor Society: President

Piano since I was 6, reached Advanced level. Branch Honors for 3 consecutive years
Founded a microfinancing group through kiva

<p>You certainly area very competitive applicant for UPenn. That’s all I can tell you unfortunately. I suppose you’ve heard about the reputation of the higher ivy league schools–turning away applicants even when everything is perfect. ED is obviously going to help a lot though.
For Berkeley/LA, you should have a very good chance. Keep in mind that they don’t take grade 9 as seriously as G10 and G11, and they view declining grades very negatively, so they certainly aren’t low-match schools as much as your ECs and SATs suggest otherwise. If you had maintained your 4.0 or at least overall had a 3.9, you’d have an extremely high chance of getting into Berk/LA. I’ve also heard that LA has a reputation for taking students with the highest GPAs (with some GPAs as low as 3.3 every once in a while), while Berkeley makes some more exceptions for people like you–people with very competitive ECs.
You may want to look into the “Hout Report” by UC berkeley to see what I mean by how negatively they view declining GPAs. If you look at the coefficients for their model, the coefficient is much larger than the value for several other factors.</p>
<p>Thanks! I’m really uncertain about Penn and I feel like it can go either way.
As for UCLA/Berkeley, it does seem that Cal is willing to put other factors above GPA. It’s ironic though, because UCLA is my first choice and I’ve done a lot of stuff there. I would rather attend UCLA than Berkeley, but I don’t know if I’ll have that choice.

<p>Very nice stats! You definitely have strong chances with UCLA and UCB. Why did you apply ED for UPenn though? You have a decent chance of getting in ED, although I would think that you would have a much high chance going RD for UPenn. Decently strong extracurricular’s (piano buddy! Advanced level too!). <p>Your GPA, Test Scores, and ECs are all really good. I think you have a really good chance at UCLA and UCB. I dont know much about UPenn though so I couldnt say. And having a strong essay would really put you over the top.</p>

My school keeps records of college admissions (students GPA and test scores, where they got admitted and denied, etc). I’m kind of worried about Penn because mostly everyone who got accepted has a 3.9+ GPA.
Our school does get a lot of Cal acceptances though, and a fair amount of UCLA acceptances.

<p>Being in state, the UCs might be a little tough. At least at my school, a lot more people have been getting into Berk than UCLA. UCs also take into account GPAs a lot more b/c they don’t take recs and an admissions counselor acquaintance told our school that they only give a cursory read through at essays. Penn is definitely a reach, while I think you should be able to get into LA and Berk. Your E/Cs are solid and jw, what school/area are you from, cuz I am trying to continue my school’s global business success in california and at nationals, plus Mock Trial is pretty big where I’m from.</p>
<p>@denboi486 I have a friend whose mom is a UC essay reader, and they rank the overall profile, including essays, from 1-5. I do think UCs are more scores-oriented though. I’m not comfortable with saying my school name, but we’re in the South Bay area near Torrance. Mock Trial isn’t big at our school but MUN is. As for Cal/UCLA acceptances, we get about 50 Berkeley acceptances each year and around the same for UCLA, but more people apply to UCLA sooo yeah</p>
<p>@aunt bea: yeah, finances are a big factor for the other schools I’m applying to. However, Penn treats Canadian (and Mexican) citizens like US citizens in terms of aid so I won’t have a problem there. Also, I would be paying in-state tuition for the UCs :)</p>

GPA is pretty dope! C miiighhht hurt you but I think colleges will like that you brought it up to a B, and you get a big cushion with the rest being A’s frosh/soph year and having a great weighted gpa. SAT score is fine, and awards look good. EC - very clear dedication to MUN which is especially good for int’l relations! Nice!</p>
<p>Penn ED - As you said to me, GPA a little low but I doubt that has much of a factor with your other things. Superb ECs, I’d say penn high match/low reach, but put more emphasis on high match. Update us!</p>
<p>UCLA/UCB - Both Matches. I know they dislike declining grades but your UC GPA will still easily be in their top ranges, and you’re living in Cali which will help.</p>
