That sounds amazing! Probably won’t apply to Northeastern due to the unpredictable acceptances, but that class is definitely something that sounds really interesting and all students that do med should have to take something like that. It’s heartbreaking to be a doctor, and after working first hand at a low-income oriented clinic and reading When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, I’ve come to realize how difficult a task of being a doctor truly is, having to learn things about patients and “carrying their burden” (? not the right way to put it but you get the idea). Kudos to all the doctors out there for being so strong.
Why? Rice is unpredictable too.
If you’re not interested in NU because you’re not interested in the school, I get that 100%.
But if you are interested, not applying for this reason seems not a good reason to not apply.
I’m not interested. I just don’t want to list my reasons because I don’t want to accidentally offend OP.
I’m fine with anything to be honest. I know I’ll be happy at a large state uni too or anywhere else that’s not similar to Rice. It’s just Rice, in my opinion, is the best fit socially, academically, and career wise. The second best fit, in my opinion, is WashU.
No offense taken
Just offering a new idea. There are thousands of schools out there, you’ll land at a great one!
if I were you, I’d look for a LAC with merit or an in-state option. You have a long, expensive road ahead. Merit might make it easier on your family. But my own kid’s list is a mix of OOS publics, LACs, in-state public. My experience from my D22 was that what you think you want in the fall of senior year is often quite different than what you choose when the options are on the table and you actually have to make a decision. I like the idea of having a little bit of everything so that you can come at the decision in April with whatever perspective you have gained between now and then.
good luck!
You’re right. I’d definitely want a few options in the Spring, and with the way things are going now, I probably won’t. So thank you for the reminder. I’ll go update my college list soon. And yes, someone above suggested LACs. I’m looking into them and have found a few to add to my list. Good luck to your kid as well!! Hoping they get the schools they want!!
Find some places that are a pretty sure thing and that you could “maybe sort of” see yourself at. Maybe you’ve always been curious about the state, or you like the way they talk about learning or their community. Maybe you know someone who loves it there and they’re pretty cool. Heck, maybe they have no extra essays. Just something that draws you and helps you narrow down to a handful of options.
I know it seems like the most important decision. But maybe it’s not. Maybe you end up with options you like or maybe you’re sad about how it all goes. No matter what, you’ll pick a place, show up with your dorm decor, get a roommate, a new class schedule, and your life will begin a new chapter. What happens there is up to you, not the place.
Since LACs are very small, understand that at some LACs, a large pct of students are athletes and sometimes they can be very cliquey.
