Hello!
I’m a 9th grader for the 2025-2026 school year, and I am applying to re-class for the 2026-2027 school year. I’m applying to the following schools: the Hotchkiss School, Phillips Exeter Academy, the Groton School, Choate Rosemary Hall, the Loomis Chaffee School, Deerfield Academy, Miss Porter’s School, Shattuck St. Mary’s School, and Stanstead College. Academically, I had a 3.75 GPA last year in middle school, but it’s because I took one high-school class (honors geometry) and got an 86, and my middle school doesn’t do GPA; this year, I have a 4.28 UW and a 4.47 W. I’m accelerated for math, I’m taking H Algebra 2 BC and H French 3 but that seems to be pretty normal for all boarding school applicants anyways. I’m a girls’ ice hockey player; I play Tier I AAA for a team, but we’re not a good team, even though we go to all the big tournaments in Canada and PIP Showcases. I’ve been in contact with a lot of the coaches - I got on a Q&A call with the Deerfield players, on an informal discussion with the Stanstead coach, and Shattuck is having me fly out to Minnesota so I can get on the ice and practice with them a few times (hasn’t happened yet, I’ll update when I’m back). Groton also wants to call me, but I haven’t coordinated that yet. My other interest is writing and research in the humanities, but I don’t have much to show for that except a paper from English class that I wrote about a niche topic from China and an article that I published in my school newspaper. So I obviously know that my essays matter a lot and I’m putting a lot into them to the point where I don’t do any independent writing projects anymore because my essays are all I write now, but I don’t know if they’re strong enough. I’ve had my Groton, Choate, Loomis, and Deerfield interviews (my Exeter interview is tonight at 10 pm!!!), and I think they all went well, especially Groton and Deerfield.
I’m so sorry for the long post. I’m re-applying to Choate Rosemary Hall, Loomis Chaffee, Deerfield, and Miss Porter’s. I got waitlisted last year, but my application was really bad, so I’m trying again because I really am interested in BS. Our high school is really good, and most graduates from my HS have high chances of getting into Cornell, so BS isn’t a necessity, which is why I don’t have any backups (I don’t think Miss Porter’s counts as a backup).
One last thing - if anyone here has had experience applying to Stanstead College/similar Canadian boarding schools, do you have any help regarding the essay prompt? “Please upload a letter explaining why you are interested in attending Stanstead College. Include your interests, hobbies, and any additional information you feel would be helpful for Admissions to know.” I literally have NO IDEA what to write. Any tips would so appreciated, thank you all so much!
