That’s not really accurate. For D1 and D2 sports, coaches can not contact a prospective student athlete until the summer after their sophomore year. Dates vary by sport and fencing looks to be June 15. The idea is to begin emailing coaches prior to this date to get on their radar. So not receiving any immediate feedback is not necessarily indicative of lack of interest. It’s a long process.
