Chance me for Tulane, please?!

Tulane is my dream school for multiple reasons I could make a whole thread about. However, I fear my GPA/ test scores are not satisfactory for admission- 3.5 unweighted GPA and an ACT composite score of 25. (I am retaking it and am on track to a higher score.) Despite these potential setbacks I feel as if other aspects of my application are very strong. I will graduate having taken 8 APs along with several other enriched courses including 5 years of Spanish.

Extracurricular wise
-I have been on my school's Odyssey of the Mind team for 9 years (we have qualified for states several times and world finals)
-Speech and Debate for 3 years (been to both states and nationals),
-volunteered as a research assistant this past summer at the University of Rochester,
-over 600 volunteer hours from volunteering at a camp for children and adults with special needs (3 years)
-over 100 hours volunteering at a local hospice home ( 1 year)
-part time job at a nursing home.

I anticipate my essays and letters of rec to be strong.

The middle 50% of ACT scores for those admitted into Tulane was 29-32. Hopefully your score after you retake it is higher. If you can get yourself into that 29-32 range I think you’ll be golden. But even if you can’t I don’t think it’s impossible. You have good ECs and seem to really want it. Let Tulane know that. Make sure to show your interest in the school every chance you get. Email the adcoms, try and visit Tulane, and make sure you write an exceptional ‘Why Tulane’ essay. Tulane gets over 45000 applications a year, so make sure yours stands out.

Here’s two blog posts from one of the guys that works in the admissions office about the Why Tulane essay and about demonstrating interest. He also has a bunch of other posts about Tulane admissions tips.

I’m a student at Tulane so if you have any other questions , feel free to message me.

If you’re in-state for Tulane, then 27/1870 will do it, given that you’re likely to use SCEA on it.

If you’re OOS for Tulane, though, 27/1870 will make it a reach.

Thank you so much I appreciate your reply!

Actually 27 is not accurate. 28 is the minimum ACT the guarantees a Louisiana student acceptance (along with other factors listed on the web site ).

As you already know, you really need to get that ACT score up. You might want to try the SAT. Sometimes students do much better on one test than the other.

You have impressive ECs. For an OOS student you will want to raise your ACT score for a more solid chance. I think their mid-range ACT range is 28-32. You need to get it in that range if you want to make it a match, also assuming you apply early.
