Hi guys! International student (Korean) here. I’m currently a junior and want to major either poli sci or international relations in college.

SAT: 1440 / 1600 (680 RW, 760 Math)
ACT: 30 (I just tried it out to see if I do better on the ACT than SAT)
TOEFL: 111
SAT 2: 800 Korean (ik it doesn’t really help me), planning to take USH / Math 2c / Chinese
Going to retake SAT 2 more times, definitely want 1500+ for higher schools. Don’t know if I should retake ACT and TOEFL

GPA 4.0 UW. My school doesn’t announce class ranks
I took all honors 9th grade, 1 AP 10th grade (score wasn’t too good :confused: probably not gonna send it), taking 4 AP courses right now and probably going to take 6+ next year

EC:

  • High school orchestra since 6th grade
  • Varsity soccer team
  • NHS
  • Mu Alpha Theta / Math club
  • JSA
  • Writing Club
  • STEM Club
  • Science Olympiad, Science Fair
    Awards:
  • Grand Prize for Florida Korean American essay competition
  • 1st place in regional science fair computer science category (2 times, got some kind of award from Intel)

It seems that you’re on the right track with that SAT and GPA. While your ECs are decent, I would suggest getting involved in ECs that line up more with your intended major of political science.

Yes, adding 60 points to your SAT RW would help a lot. That might be easier than trying to get your ACT to 33 or 34, which is what you’d need to improve your chances at top schools.

You usually don’t have to submit AP scores when applying, but you may have to self report. Usually you only send once you’ve decided to attend so they can give you credit.

So if I get a low score and decide to not send it, it won’t matter too much with the admission? They would still know that I took the course, right?

4.82 for both so far, not counting this year’s courses

I’m thinking about UC Davis/Irvine/LA/Berkeley

Capped UC weighted cannot be higher than 4.4 but fully weighted can be 4.82.

You look competitive all the UC’s so keep up the good job.
