I am a white female, raised by a single mom, upper middle class from California.

Desired major: Political Science/Pre-Law or English.

My UC/CSU GPA: 3.96 / School GPA: 3.89 / 8 out of 142 in my class.

ACT-
Composite: 27
English: 35
Reading: 29
Math: 23
Science: 20
Combined English/Writing: 32

SAT-
Math: 510
Reading: 570

I have taken all of the AP classes available at my school (I go to a small school in an area with an extremely high poverty rate… not many extra-curriculars or honors classes)

I scored a 5 on the AP English Language & Composition exam.

Extracurriculars:
*I have performed 130+ hrs of community service.
*I trained a puppy into a service dog in a 2 yr program in my area. My service dog passed its certification test with an above perfect score and is now helping a disabled person.
*I was selected by my local Rotary club to go to a Rotary Youth Leadership Academy

I am taking a gap year (2013-2014) to be a foreign exchange student in Turkey through Rotary Youth Exchange and I plan on retaking the ACT for a higher score. I don’t know if being a foreign exchange student will increase my chances.

My dream school would be preferably in New York, but I wouldn’t mind staying in state and going to UCI or CP SLO.

So… chances?
