What dont you like about Temple?

Which program do you want to transfer into?

the area around temple is my chief complaint about the school, it is simply not welcoming and i do not enjoy living in such run down part of the city and would rather lower the amount of debt i graduate with, as i will be in-state for uconn.

i would be transferring into economics

You’re in, congrats.

Good effing riddance to you…

What a joke.

Well, Temple is in a really crappy area, and it is not worth the money going there for undergrad.

North Philly is not the most desirable place in the world, but his complaints are completely unfounded. Our campus is very nice all things considered. And not worth the money? Maybe if you’re out of state and didnt qualify for merit aid, but I know a ton of out of staters who wholeheartedly enjoy it here. The fact that I’m paying under $20,000 a year for tuition and room and board makes it damn worth it.

I hope the OP enjoy cowtown Storrs. I heard they just got a supermarket!

UConn is a much better school academically, so you are making a smart decision. Temple is where you go when you can’t get into Penn State.

Not really…

LMAO I love this one. Yes, we all end up here, because all of us were DYING to go to college in middle-of-nowhere, PA. Do you honestly think everyone at Temple didnt get in? Sooooo many people turn down Penn State and better every year. Penn State is a fine school with a very good football team in a location less desirable than North Philly.

^ Keep telling yourself that. ;-)

dionte, i did receive a fine merit aid, in fact the most that i could be allotted given my credits, efc, and residence, but uconn would still be cheaper.

but one thing this post is for myself to see what if people would let me know what they think my chances are in transferring to uconn, not what school is better and why, you should learn to accept opinion(you do go to temple where there are many opinions). i would appreciate it if you would stick to the script.

It seems you have an answer to everything so how about these questions.

I will, because I’m right.

1) I’d assume the point is to get people into the lounge, which they do.

2) First of all, it’s $80M, not billion. As far as no computer lab, I cant say I knew that. Most people being their own laptops, and there are TONS of break out rooms with computers if you didnt. There’s also that place called the TECH Center. It has a few computers.

3) The school gets a bad rap because of its location. Sure, North Philly is high crime, but I’ve never felt unsafe here. Yeah, we have a small issue with homeless people asking for money, but they’re never hostile or anything. Considering Temple is buying and developing a lot of the surrounding area, it’ll only get better. The new supermarket is going to be great and will hopefully change the culture in the immediate area. I live in one of the safest towns in the country, and I have no trepidation about walking home from White Hall or to White Hall or to anywhere on the fringe of campus at 2/3/4 AM. The security does a great job.

4) I hold Temple in high regard, because I’m a student here, and this is my school. My dad is a very influential alum, and I’ve grown up going to Temple football and basketball games and walking around campus with my family. I didn’t go to Temple after graduating from high school because of a combination of the suburban stigma (despite my dad attending), and the fact that I wanted to get out of Philly. I discovered that Boston was not the Mecca it’s made out to be, and transferred home to Temple. I also hold Temple in high regard, because I see just how much potential this school has. With historically one of the top basketball programs in NCAA history, and a football team that is turning the corner from the laughing stock of college football to a team that will compete for conference championships every year and consistently make Bowl Games, combined with an administration that is making admission more difficult every year, with more and more top students opting for Temple rather than schools like NYU, Lehigh, Penn State, Michigan, etc., there’s no reason we should be out of the discussion with schools like Penn State, Pitt and Rutgers.

As far as organization goes, I’m sorry to tell you that every school is like that. Screw ups happen everywhere and at all times.

So that’s my long winded speech. I apologize for initially attacking you. I’m sure your reasons for transferring are legit, it’s just that I get sick of everyone attacking Temple for its location. It’s unfortunate that its location overshadows what a great school it is academically.

^ Wow, you’re delusional. Temple is a tier 3 university according to US News… It’s not on the same level as the schools mentioned in your post.

lol, btw… Didn’t Temple get booted from the Big East, because they were horrible? If it weren’t for its good business school, Temple would be a parking lot for that new supermarket… LMAO

So a magazine’s ranking is gospel? Temple is not a tier 3 school. The funny thing is it’s one spot outside of the rankings.

Maybe it’s not…yet.

We were booted from the BE because the previous administration (which is thankfully gone) was not dedicated to the football program. That, combined with terrible coaching. We could possibly rejoin the BE in the future, once we start reaching Bowl Games. We have a great, new administration that is dedicated to football and willing to pour more and more money into the program.

That’s a terrible attempt at ■■■■■■■■. We have a lot of great programs other than our business school. And a parking lot for the new super market? That would be one HUGE super market…

Hey, OP. I’m a little confused about your credits and GPA…are you projecting those for when you transfer? What is your actual number of credits and your GPA?

UConn is transfer-friendly, but keep in mind that the vast majority of transfers there come from the Connecticut Community Colleges, so they eat up most of the spots. They don’t use the Common Application and instead want you to focus on writing essays about why you want to transfer to UConn in particular; if you write about why you want to leave Temple, I can almost assure you that you won’t get in.

Transfers are not guaranteed housing, if I remember correctly, so if you absolutely require it, you’ll want to check with Admissions in advance to see if they’re projecting a transfer housing crunch for your intended start semester. You should be okay, but it’s a good thing to check on nonetheless.

Transfer admission at UConn is getting a lot more competitive – even though they require only a 2.7, it’s much higher than that in practice – but I still think you would have a very good chance. The internship certainly wouldn’t hurt, and if you send in recommendation letters (optional but recommended), that should boost your odds since it shows more interest on your part

For what it’s worth, their transfer priorities are:

1) In-state community college students with completed degree or articulation
2) In-state community college students without degree or articulation
3) Students ready to begin immediately at junior standing

And their transfer admissions website is here: [Undergraduate Transfer Admission | UConn](<a href=“Transfer Applicants | Undergraduate Admissions : Undergraduate Admissions”>http://transfer.uconn.edu/)

Best of luck! I was admitted for last fall but chose not to attend, so if you have any specific questions, let me know. :)
