My LORs are gonna be pretty strong (one from my physics teacher and the other from my english teacher)

Thanks everyone

UIUC doesn’t accept LORs. I’m wondering why you didn’t apply EA, which would have increased your chances. The fact that you’re applying RD will work against you. MechE is a competitive major at UIUC so it is probably a reach. It CAN happen, but the odds aren’t in your favor I’m afraid.

Your GPA and course rigor are excellent, with SAT okay (probably neither a help nor a hindrance). Publics don’t tend to care as much about ECs and it’s unlikely independent research helps anyway as there’s zero standard being applied and no peer review of any type.

My understanding is that UIUC cares a lot about those little supplemental essays that you wrote. How were yours?

Not sure if CC will let us link to an outside thread, but I’d bookmarked this one for UIUC admission stats for engineering majors with data from 2022. It doesn’t show EA vs RD, unfortunately.
