Chance me for UMD, U of M, CMU, and Cornell -- I would really appreciate it!

Rising senior from a public school in Ohio! I was hoping you guys could chance me for UMD College Park (College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences), U of M (LSA), CMU (School of Computer Science), Cornell (College of Arts and Sciences). I would like to major in Computer Science, and I’m really interested in cyber security. My top choice is UMD honors college, btw.

I’ll really appreciate some honest feedback! I will also chance back

By the way, I’m in the top 2% of my class. My class rank was 5/400 last year, but my school removed class rank this year.

bump

Is UMD University of Maryland?

Yes, at College Park.

Great chances at all, I won’t lie. I’m applying to UMD as a safety for business but who knows, I might end up seeing you next year!

@hyungiwosotha Thanks for your feedback! But yeah maybe I’ll see you next year

UMD is a low match - idk about the Honors College, however (but I would think you have a good chance). I think you will even get some merit money at UMD. UofM is a reach, especially since you are from one of the more competitive states for UofM (bringing your ACT score score up to a 33+ Composite, if possible, would put you in a great position. Your ECs might put UofM in the low reach end, depending on how well you present it and how the admissions committee receives it. Cornell is also a reach. Good luck!

@yikesyikesyikes I agree – my test scores are low for UofM. I’m not planning to take the ACT again, so hopefully they like my ECs. I definitely want to get some merit money at UMD, so it’s nice to hear that I have a good chance. Thanks for your help!

You have a great chance at UMD honors, given your involvement in Robotics and other events (they actually love seeing FIRST on there, because they hold the district championships that our team goes to every year at Xfinity Center), and your test scores are very high (per their reqs). Take a look at Honors Vs. Scholars at UMD. I think you can actually make both programs if you get your SAT higher. Can’t speak for the other schools though. Good Luck!

@Quantus11 Thank you for your feedback! I’ll probably take the SAT again this October if I have a better chance in getting into UMD honors and scholars. The only problem is the scores have to come in before November 1st, their early action deadline. Do you know if they prefer the SAT over the ACT?

Lots of colleges are looking at the ACT as opposed to the SAT right now, since the SAT is still new

Although UofM doesn’t superscore, they “consider all of an applicant’s individual subscores from all of the applicant’s test results sent…to make an applicant as competitive as possible”

GPA is good while test scores are at or slightly below admission average for UMich. It would be a reach due to admission rate from OOS.

@billcsho I agree. Hopefully as @theringoinfinite said, they’ll look at all my individual subscores instead of just my composite. I think I’ll take the ACT again in Sept., actually, but I’m not sure if the scores will come in time for early action.
