The list is definitely ambitious, and they’re mostly all reach schools. But if you’re in Texas, you have a huge advantage. You’re in arguably the single largest tech hub in the nation. There’s no need to spend huge amounts of tuition money if you’re in a place that’s as heavily recruited as Texas A&M or UT-Austin. Just in case, I would put in a few safety schools like Houston or Texas Tech, for instance.
New updates
Got $4000/yr scholarship + engineering honors for UIUC
Presidential scholars candidacy as well
Some more crazy news:
- Got selected for presidential scholarship at UMD ($15k/4 years)
*I should clarify, $15k per year for 4 years
Another scholarship offer:
$13.5k/year from UW Madison
New updates:
- Accepted UF, CMU Waitlisted, MIT Rejection
Still waiting on Cornell and Stanford, honestly don’t care much about the other decisions
Have you thought about who is in the lead ?
Where I want to commit?
If you had to make a decision today. Or you are unsure ?
Hmmm, it’d either be between UF or UIUC, but overall not sure
Hopefully you can get to both. Very different. UF will be less costly.
UIUC is a bit above your dad’s limit.
Actually, with federal pell grant it came to just slightly above $60k, and he’d be willing to do that
Only reason that I’m considering UF is because of family that’s in Florida
Have you been to either ? To me UOUC is a love it or hate it school. Polarizing.
Why not A&M - if you are a Pell student. How can a Pell student afford $60k?
I got very little in pell grant aid (like $740/yr) and the scholarship is what drives it down to $60k
A&M is moreso a risky bet due to ETAM
But a big financial save.
Best of luck whatever you decide.
Re: Texas A&M
If the OP wants computer engineering, that likely requires a 3.75 college GPA (the automatic admission threshold in ETAM), because there tends to be little or no space in computer engineering after the automatic admits are placed. Civil engineering is likely to be less competitive.
Updates:
- $6000/yr scholarship at UF
UW-Madison has actually become cheaper for me than A&M now. I got my financial aid offer and it turned out to be $34k/yr in terms of my estimated net cost because I got selection for the BANNER program, alongside STAR scholars.
Well, Ivy day wasn’t completely bad. I got rejected Harvard and Yale, but I did end up getting waitlisted from Cornell.
